5 Porsche 944 Outlaw Cars

The rules for creating an “outlaw” version of a vehicle are fairly simple – first, the quality level of adjustments made must remain true to the brand. Second, the car must still be a street car, not just a track car. Third, there must be a clear level of simplicity to the car – all the unnecessary items, such as carpet insulation, center consoles, stereos, etc., must be stripped to make the car lighter. It’s this latter point where the subtle nuances of what truly makes a car an “outlaw” car are often discussed. Porsche’s 944 is a popular car to convert to “outlaw” status, however, most owners tend to go the route of stripping it down and running it on a track only. Few make it an “outlaw” street car. The following are some examples of the latter type.

1. A battle scar version

The left is the base and the right is the more finished product – as the owner described, a “timed attack, battle scar” version.

2. Work in progress

The owner here describes bracing out the hood leave a light weight skin. He’s also in the process of finishing a trans-axle brace and battery box. The car now weighs just over 2400 lbs, which still makes it good to go on the street.

3. Outlaw incognito

One look at this 944 and you can’t tell it’s been redone to make it “outlaw” worthy. But the owner deleted all the padding inside, cut off the lower part of the door panel, removed the center console, deleted the power aerial, rear wiper, and hatch motor. Up next? Find some manual sunroof latches to rid the car of its sunroof motor.

4. Murder black outlaw 944

The owner of this 944 removed much of the full interior, wheel liners, paint, a/c, heater, radio, power steering, windshield washer tank, wiring, headlights, mirrors and sunroof parts. He added a welded cage, racing seats, new dash, 55w HID fog lights, safety equipment, lighter mirrors, and more.

5. The perfect outlaw 944

Some of these “outlaw” 944s have needed a little explaining, but this particular approach requires no further details beyond the amazing photos.
