1. Some Things Never (Should) Change

People often mock Porsche for never changing the 911, despite the fact that its steady evolution is fitting for such an iconic car. But Porsche embraces that lack of change in this print ad, rightly pointing out that the 911 is one of the few cars in the world that is both instantly recognizable and widely regarded as a phenom. The formula remains the same, yet each generation improves upon the previous one. It's a big part of what has made the 911 such an enduring success.

2. Years Ahead in Engineering

Porsche has long been an engineering marvel, even way back in 1955. The 356 was, like many early Porsches, a car that focused on performance through intelligent design. Lightness was the name of the game, and today it's still the best way to improve both straight line speed and handling all at the same time. The focus on superior engineering endures today as well, as modern Porsche vehicles continue to prove that the automaker is years ahead of the competition.

3. Anatomy of a Turbo Porsche

While some automakers might be content with slapping a turbo, a turbo badge on their car, and calling it a day, such has never been the case with Porsche. Here we see the many components taken into consideration when designing the 944 Turbo, all of which are beefed up to handle the extra power, heat, and performance that a turbo provides. Because Porsche knows that designing a well-rounded performance car can't be accomplished by simply adding power alone.

4. Racing - The Ultimate Test

Many automotive manufacturers have used motorsports as a way to develop their road going cars, but perhaps none more so than Porsche. That tradition goes back quite literally to the very beginning and continues on today. And while every sports car manufacturer today uses various circuits to test their new models, Porsche has been doing it since the very start.

5. Flog it, Don't Garage it

Who the heck buys a Porsche as a collector's item instead of driving and enjoying it? Well, a lot of people, unfortunately. The message from Porsche is quite clear in this vintage ad, however, don't be afraid to flog the crap out of your new 911. Simply leaving it unloved and lonely in your garage is pure torture for a car meant to be driven...and driven hard.

6. The Line Between Race Car and Production Car

As Porsche always likes to point out, the development process for its new production models begins on the race track. That holds true for the 944 Turbo, a car preceded by the 944 GTP. Porsche rightly brags about the underdog's success on the racing circuit, pointing out that this is exactly the type of competition that brings out the best in their car building efforts. And that's a fact that's hard to argue.

7. Kills Bugs Fast

911 and Turbo have always been synonymous with ultimate performance. But while that type of speed is fun for those of us lucky enough to be behind the wheel of one, it's terrible news for our friends in the insect world. The reason is, when you're traveling along in a car capable of 181 miles per hour, bugs are going to have a really hard time getting out of its way before being sent to the pearly gates.
