Curious Findings

Porsche's first-ever EV isn't quite on the streets just yet. But while we await its arrival, we can go online and build the Taycan of our dreams. Which is exactly what we found ourselves doing recently. And as is typical with any normal Porsche, we found a number of interesting options (and lack thereof) worth noting, especially if you're in the market for a new Taycan.

Required Add-Ons

The first and perhaps most interesting thing we noticed was that at least for now, there are certain "options" we're forced to pay for. That includes the panoramic glass roof, which comes with the Turbo and Turbo S models as "standard," yet costs an extra $1,490. The same goes for your choice between a mobile charger ($1,120) or home energy manager ($1,660), the latter of which isn't quite available yet.

Shades of Money

Next up, you'll be making a very important decision about your Taycan - what color will it be? And you've got a whopping 10 choices in that regard. Nine of those ten are surprisingly no cost options, while only one requires an additional charge - Carmine Red, which will set you back another $3,150.

Wheel Choices

For the low cost of nothing, your Taycan comes equipped with 20-inch Turbo Aero wheels and all-season tires. But what fun is that? For an extra $1,290, you can have your wheels painted a custom color or simply match them to your car's exterior. But if you just want the best of the best, check the box for the 21-inch exclusive design wheels with carbon-fiber aero blades, which cost $7,650.

Insider Trading

Moving to the interior, bargain shoppers will be happy to know there are three no-cost options inside. They include all-black leather, black race tex, or graphite blue race tex. Or, if you can't help but spend some cash here, there are additional options ranging from $570 to $3,070. No cost seat options include a choice between 14-function power seats and 18-way adaptive sport seats.

Package Deal

Picking a package for your Taycan is the easiest way to tack on dozens of options and of course, lots of dough. The premium package adds $4,340 and includes the glass roof, park assist, and extra storage. Or, drop $5,400 and go for the performance package, which includes Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport, rear-axle steering, and the necessary electric sport sound.

Badge Delete

One very interesting option on the Taycan is the ability to add or delete badges. On the Taycan Turbo, you can go stealth mode and opt to remove the badge on the rear. You can also add or remove the silver electric logo on the front doors. Porsche has long offered these badge delete options, but it's still nice to see you can do it with the Taycan.

Light Me Up

The Taycan is already undeniably flashy, and comes equipped with all sorts of great LED lighting. But if you want to do something small to set your Taycan apart from the "crowd," Porsche is offering glacier blue LEDs for an additional cost of $580.

Freebies

Despite the abundance of extra-cost options, there are at least a couple of free items you can add when building your Taycan. They include black brushed aluminum door sill guards and charging cables, in addition to the aforementioned items.

Worth It

Until we see the arrival of lower-cost Taycan models sometime in the future, it'll be hard to satisfy those electric Porsche dreams of yours for less than $160k, at the very minimum. But we doubt early adopters will care. And after all, isn't every dollar you've spent on Porsches in the past been worth it?
