Enticing Offering

RUF is a name long synonymous with the Porsche brand, famous for adding a dose of style and performance to what are already excellent driving machines. The company's namesake, Alois Ruf, has developed quite the reputation for building impressive cars featuring nothing less than stellar quality. All of which makes this rather rare RUF 930 Turbo we spotted over at Mecum Auctions quite the enticing offering.

First of Few

This particular RUF BTR is not only one of just 25 produced, but it's also serial #001. Which, of course, only adds to its pedigree. Today, the car remains in exceptional condition with just 7,264 miles on the clock. The special Porsche also comes with a with a RUF certificate of authenticity for the discerning collector.

Coaxing Power

RUF began the process of transforming this Porsche into something special by first taking possession of a stock 930, of course. From there, they attacked performance with a vengeance, achieving an impressive 375 hp from the car's flat-six powerplant thanks to larger-bore pistons, a twin-plug ignition, free-flowing exhaust, and turbocharger modification.

Total Package

RUF also removed the stock four-speed manual transmission in favor of a five-speed for easier highway cruising. From there, they stiffened up the suspension to help the car stay flat in the corners, and installed bigger brakes to slow the whole thing down in a hurry. Even by today's standards, the BTR is quite a quick and fun machine to drive.

Visual Changes

Of course, RUF didn't stop there. They also performed a number of exterior modifications that set this Porsche visually apart from a "regular" 930. Those changes include the obvious slant nose, front spoiler, boxed rockers, and unique 17-inch RUF wheels. In this case, the whole thing was then covered in the always-attractive Guards Red hue.

Special Example

The interior of the RUF 930 remains mostly as Porsche designed it, save for a set of RUF gauges. Throw in a RUF strut bar, and you've got a pretty comprehensive build in total. And given this car's inherent rarity, it's a truly special example of the notable breed.

Not a Porsche

Alois Ruf is quite the legendary figure in Germany, even obtaining official manufacturer status from the country thanks to his exceptional builds. Thus, even though RUF cars are technically Porsches, they also aren't. And this beautiful '88 Turbo is a perfect example of how that otherwise confusing distinction makes perfect sense.
