Having your cake and eating it - the Porsche way

It might have the reserved presence of a German premium SUV, but this new Cayenne is the most powerful sports-utility vehicle yet from Porsche. A hybrid drive system has not only given the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid amazing fuel consumption potential, but also made it the most potent of all Porsche SUVs.

Taking the 4-liter V8 to a place beyond expectation

The primary motivation for this Porsche remains the brand's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine. It boasts 550hp, which is plenty. But the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid adds another 136hp to that peak output number, thanks to an integrated electric drive module, which is homed with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined total system output is a very impressive 680hp.

Plug and play

As a plug-in hybrid, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid offers tremendous fuel consumption benefits. It might be a large German performance SUV, but it will coast on pure electric power for up to 25-miles. Average consumption is hugely impressive too, thanks to the electric motor taking over in traffic conditions and at pull-away. You can average 60mpg with this 680hp Porsche.

Modern and classic dials aside

Although it has a traditional analog tachometer, this hybrid Cayenne is distinguished by an additional digital readout that other Porsche SUVs don't have. Its e-power meter allows you to gauge how much potency is left in the hybrid system.

Keeping it green

Similar to the Panamera hybrid, this new plug-in Cayenne also features lime-green brake calipers. Although we usually associated red or yellow brake calipers as the signature of distinction on Porsches, these green ones look fantastic and are no less capable.

Hybrid system even helps the handling

The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is available in wheel sizes up to 22-inches and Porsche has ensured that it handles and drives unlike most rival SUVs. A huge advantage of the change to a hybrid system is that these Porsches now feature a 48-volt electrical structure. That has allowed Porsche to use a special electrically-driven anti-roll bar system, which is excellent at countering body-roll and brake drive.

It leads, others follow

The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is properly fast too. Porsche claims 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, which is quick enough to allow this Cayenne hybrid to tail some seriously accomplished supercars. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission help to launch and accelerate the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid with abundance.

The best all-round Porsche? Possibly

Striking design, immense performance, and the promise of terrific fuel-economy. The 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid sounds nearly too good to be true. Factor in the 22.7 cu-ft of luggage space, and it becomes an even more convincing all-round family vehicle, with both luxury and performance. The only possible issue is price, with the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid set to retail for $161 900.
