The Aestec GTS is an Spiritual Updated 904 GTS

The German builder pays homage to the iconic Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. But the Aestec GTS is much more of a bespoke grand tourer than a race car.

A Different Type of Resto

We've grown used to seeing robust restomod projects, carrying out the idea of adding modern day performance to the classic beauty of automotive icons. Porsche 911s of all generations have been extremely popular subjects of such projects for years. But the Aestec GTS project you see in this slideshow isn't your typical restomod. Far from it.

Aestec

Aestec Design is based in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The company is founded by Porsche enthusiast and engineer, Alexander Schaeferhoff, who has been involved with restoring Porsches his entire life.

Not a Replica

The idea behind these custom Porsches is to apply the timeless aesthetic of the legendary Porsche 904 GTS onto a modern-day sports car. An educated eye could instantly be put off by the disconnect in proportions between this creation and the original Porsche. But the Aestec GTS isn't meant to be a replica.

Tribute to the Legend

According to Schaeferhoff, the Aestec GTS serves as a tribute to the 904, rather than a recreation. While the styling is inspired by the classic mid-engine Porsche, many of the characteristics are vastly different. The Aestec GTS is designed as a bespoke grand tourer, with ample modern creature comforts and cargo space, as well as great handling and performance.

Modern GT Performance

To achieve dimensions close to those of the original 904, Schaeferhoff chose the 986 Porsche Boxster as a starting point. The Boxster chassis structure has been thoroughly reinforced. The performance features of the car have been updated, including a selection of M96 and M97 Porsche engines, ranging from 250 horsepower to 355.

State of the Art Manufacturing

The Porsche 904 inspiration continues in the manufacturing process. The 1960s race car was built with cutting edge technology of the time. The utilization of fiber glass was new to the automotive world at the time, and the Porsche was a pioneer in that regard. Schaeferhoff wants to carry the same ideology, incorporating today's lightweight carbon fiber material.

Unique Creation

The GTS may not be a modernization of the Porsche 904, but it lives as a driving homage to what Schaeferhoff considers to be the most iconic car in the world. Some will inevitably view it as a knockoff. But the incredible amount of attention to detail in each of these Aestec GTS builds makes them amazingly unique grand tourers.
