Poll Results from RennLists’ Survey of Members and Subscribers is Released

Portsmouth, New Hampshire – 5/22/99 -- Last weeks web poll on the main page at http://www.rennlist.org which asked, "If you currently do not own a Boxster or a 996, would you consider purchasing a new one?" have been tabulated and are posted. RennList.Com received a total of 620 unique responses (multiple responses from the same IP address were discarded in the tabulations).

The results are interesting, with 62% of the respondents say "No, they wouldn't currently consider purchasing a new 996/Boxster", while 38% of you said "Yes!." In looking at the data, it is apparent that for those who stated they would not now consider purchasing, the primary reason is the acquisition price of these newer models as nearly 48% of the "No" respondents stated this as their primary objection. However, in those same responses, nearly half of those (45%), said they would buy one used (obviously, the "used price being somewhat less then the "new" price.)

The styling still seems somewhat controversial within the base of respondents, as 33% of the "No" responses mentioned this as an issue. It will be interesting to see how, if and when this might change over time. As some might recall, it took a period of time for the re-designed 993 to be overwhelmingly accepted by the enthusiast community as well. For the 38% (234 respondents) who would consider buying a new 996 or Boxster, the reasons are clear - Performance (46% of the responses).

Along these same lines, and complimentary to the Performance issue, are factors such as "Quality of Engineering" (18%) and "latest Porsche Technology" (17%). Interestingly (and in contradiction to the "No" responses), 37% of the "Yes" respondents cited the Styling/Design of the new 996/Boxster as one of the primary factors in their consideration to purchase one!

So what is this weeks poll? "When you take your Porsche in for Service, regardless of year or model type, do you take it to a Porsche Authorized Dealer?" You can participate by surfing over to http://www.rennlist.org and filling out the form at the top of the page.
