Porsche 993: How to Remove Smoke Smell

An interior that reeks of smoke makes for an unpleasant driving experience. Learn how to get rid of the smoke smell in your Porsche 993.

This article applies to the Porsche 993 (1993-1998).

Smoke in a car interior permeates into sections like the air conditioning system or the heater. Carpets and upholstery are other materials that suck in the smoke smell from cigarettes. There are low-cost ways to get rid of various smoke smells without replacing car components altogether. There is also the pricier ozone shock treatment touted as successful with hard to remove smell. This article explains the process and skill vital to getting rid of smoke smell from the Porsche 993 interior.

Materials Needed

  • Deodorizer
  • Steam cleaner
  • Vacuum
  • Ozone treatment machine

Step 1 – Clean the upholstery

Clean out the trash in the car and vacuum the rugs, upholstery, or other materials where smoke can be sucked. If the cigarette smell persists in the interior, steam clean the upholstery and also apply odor removal enzyme solutions to break down smoke chemicals.

Step 2 – Spray odor neutralizer in air duct

The air duct is another repository of cigarette smoke smell. To remove the smell, park the Porsche 993 preferably outside or in a well-ventilated place and turn on the engine so the fan and air conditioner are active as you spray the odor neutralizer. That circulates the odor neutralizer compounds around the air duct to remove the smoke smell.

Step 3 – Spray deodorizer on air intake

If the smoke persists, and you sense it's trapped within the engine components bordering the interior, spray the deodorizer on the air intake screen with the car heater on. The deodorizer gets the smoke likely trapped in the blower, air ducts, and evaporator. Keep spraying until you don't smell any smoke.

Step 4 – Try the ozone shock treatment

If the above steps didn't remove the smoke smell, then you should consider the ozone shock treatment. This treatment is touted as highly effective in getting rid of smoke from a car's interior by killing bacteria that holds smoke odors and mutating odor compounds so they don't smell. This treatment involves use of a pro-ozone treatment machine to destroy smoke smell compounds.
