With a maximum power output of over 1,500 HP, the Porsche 917/30 is considered to be the most powerful racecar ever. The twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder had so much grunt in qualifying mode that the racing team had to turn the boost down for the race itself. This 1973 CanAm race winner was sold in 2012 for €3.7 million which equals $4.4 million.

9. 1979 Porsche 935 - $4,840,000

Paul Newman's own 1979 Le Mans race car was the ultra-successful Porsche 935. The racecar based on the engineering philosophy of the 911 was victorious at numerous endurance races over its 9-year active racing life such as the 12 hours of Sebring, 24 hours of Daytona, and of course, Le Mans. This car was sold in 2017 for €4 million.

6. 1960 Porsche RS60 - $5,400,000

Being the number 4 of only 4 Porsche RS60 racecars, this 1960 beauty is special just by virtue of that fact alone. It doesn't hurt its legacy, however, that it was raced by some of the most legendary names in motorsport history including Stirling Moss and Graham Hill.

3. 1956 Porsche 550 Spyder - $5,990,704

What makes this example of the 550 Spyder so special is the fact that between 1956 (when it was built) and now, this car has never even been considered for restoration. The legendary Porsche has been so incredibly well-preserved that a near $6-million price tag on it seems pretty fair.

2. 1982 Porsche 956 - $10,120,000

There is no denying the grand legend of the 956, but this specific race car is unique due to the fact that it was not only number 3 of the 10 Porsche factory team 956s ever built, but it also holds the honors of coming home as a winner in the 1983 24 hours of Le Mans, as well as being part of other monumental Porsche victories.

1. 1970 Porsche 917K - $14,080,000

And topping the list, of course, is perhaps the most iconic Porsche race car of all time. Despite the fact that this 917K never won a race, the cultural influence of it is undeniable, and the historical significance behind it is worthy of discussion. So it is no surprise that Steve McQueen's Le Mans co-star was sold at Pebble Beach last year for over $14 million.
