Special Find

While we like to think that all old Posche models are special, some are obviously more so than others. That's certainly the case with this 1967 911 Targa, which was the first 911 Targa ever sold in Germany. Interestingly enough, the car was found stored away in Long Island, New York in pretty barn-like condition, but it has since received a thorough restoration from Porsche Classic.

Origin Story

This particular Targa features a rather rare configuration as well - it's one of just 925 produced in short-wheelbase, soft-window guise. It was originally delivered to a Porsche dealership in Dortmund, Germany as a demo vehicle before it was sold to a buyer in the U.S. in 1969.

Well Equipped

This Polo Red 911 Targa is rather well equipped for an early car, sporting options including black leather seats inside the cabin, a tinted windshield, a Blaupunkt Kölm radio, halogen fog lamps, a Webasto auxiliary heater, and an exterior thermometer.

Long Forgotten

The classic Porsche spent eight years on the road in America after it was originally purchased but then wound up in storage on Long Island for the next nearly 40 years. It was later discovered by a Porsche collector in 2016 in complete but dusty condition, after which it was sent back to its birthplace for a complete restoration.

Long-Term Project

Porsche Classic Factory Restoration invested a whopping 1,000 hours in bodywork alone, and spent three years massaging this special car back to its original glory. Nothing but factory-correct parts were used in the restoration, a treatment that this rare and historically significant vehicle certainly deserved.

Worth the Investment

We assume that this restoration was a "cost is no object" sort of job, but if there's a car worthy of such an investment, this is it. Only one 911 Targa can say that it was the first-ever to be sold in its home country, and that's definitely something worth saving at any cost.
