Rising Values

Recently sold was a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera convertible. The vehicle had no reserve price, but bids shot up to $34,450 before the Carrera was sold. The eBay listing appears to be a picture of things to come for 911 collectors as it sold for just under the original MSRP of $36,450, and that's with unknown mileage and a lack of paper trail.

Importing a Legend

The previous owner claims it to be a gray market 911; meaning it retains many Euro-spec parts such as H4 lighting, a lighter chassis, and less restrictive emissions. Discerning whether a 911 is truly Euro-spec or not can be tough, but there are certain tells. Common in the '80s was the practice of importing German 911s for their higher power output and cool factor. So this vehicle is not rare in that aspect, but it does make for a more interesting buy.

High Power Machine

The flat-6 engine put out 231 bhp and 207lb-ft of torque from the factory. Those numbers are a bit low for today's standards, but those were impressive figures back in the '80s. It's hard to tell the condition of the engine as the photos don't offer much of a view. The mileage is also unknown, be we can tell they're relatively low by the overall condition of the vehicle.

A Rare Combination

The exterior is coated in India Red. The vehicle also features Fuchs alloy wheels, black leather, and a black cabriolet top. The red/black combo in a convertible is quite uncommon for the model and adds to the value of the car.

Interior Time Capsule

Inside the vehicle, conditions are just as you would expect in a barn find as there are no significant rips or tears across the interior. The 911 also features sporty bucket seats made available by Porsche. It's important to note how rare it is to find an '80s vehicle completely unmolested from typical '80s excess. This is one clean ride.

A Valuable Investment

Porsche has long been the standard for automotive performance. The 911 Carrera was just another step in furthering that notion. This vehicle, although in just slightly above average condition, goes to show just how valuable the nameplate can be. Hagerty even values these cars as high as $110k! Of course, that's in the best of conditions. Carrera owners be grateful, your stock is certainly rising.
