Top Secret Stunner

Porsche teased the automotive world recently when they announced they were working on a top-secret job known only as "Project Gold." And that's pretty much all they would say. Soon, we learned that this special project was actually a 993-gen 911, which turned out to be a 1998 Turbo model upgraded to S spec. But little did we know just how amazing it would wind up being.

It's the Details That Count

In recent years, Porsche has put a great deal of effort into providing not only restoration parts but also full restorations themselves. And Project Gold is a perfect showcase for their amazing attention to detail. In fact, everything, including the engine and drivetrain, was sourced from the Porsche Classic catalog.

Paying Homage

The shell of this particular 993 Turbo is original but has received an extensive amount of work to make it absolutely perfect. The unique Golden Yellow Metallic paint in itself is special, as it's the same color adorning the 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.

Contrasting Colors

The wheels received a similar treatment to the ultra limited edition model as well. Black in color, they featured Golden Yellow design accents to tie them into the body. The door handles, rearview mirrors, window trim, and wing air vents are also painted black as a contrast to all that gold.

One of a Kind

To ensure nobody confuses this particular 911 with any other, however, this car was given a unique chassis number, one that comes after the last 993 ever built. And of course, there's a badge to let everyone know just how special it really is.

Interior Accents

The Turbo S Exclusive treatment continues inside, where you'll find miles of yellow stitching accenting the black leather. The seats feature the limited edition car's yellow leather underneath their perforations, which creates a "racing stripe" appearance. To top it all off, a Porsche Classic radio adorns the carbon fiber-trimmed dash.

Perfect Tribute

Tying together new and old so seamlessly is something that Porsche has proved to be quite adept at in recent years. And coincidentally, 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the final year of 993 production. So this special one-off seems like the perfect tribute.

Make Mine an S

To ensure this 993 has adequate performance, the Porsche team upgraded the drivetrain to S spec. That means the 3.6-liter flat-six now produces 450 hp, more than enough grunt to keep pace with modern classics.

Proper Drivetrain

That upgraded engine is backed up by a proper 6-speed manual transmission. And of course, all-wheel drive. Another thing that Porsche is rather famous for translating into incredible street and track performance.

For a Good Cause

All in all, a stunning way to celebrate a pair of glorious occasions. And even better, one lucky person is going to get a shot at owning this masterpiece. Because it's headed to RM Sotheby's 70th Anniversary of Porsche auction on October 27 at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta.

And while it'll undoubtedly hammer for an enormous price, all the proceeds go to benefit the Ferry Porsche Foundation. And can you really put a price on helping our nation's youth?
