Power

The SUV market is being overrun with premium automakers but there was one that started it all. The Cayenne came out in the early 2000s was instantly a beloved car. It sold more than any other Porsche model at the time--and still does by a big margin. Now, for the 2019 model year, the Cayenne has been updated and tweaked. T

This Porsche Cayenne Turbo is all about speed, otherwise, you'd be buying the normal Cayenne. This bruiser of an SUV is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that makes 550 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque. That's good for a 0-60 run in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 177. Crazy, right? That's not even the Turbo S model!

Design

The design of the 2019 Cayenne is more of an evolution than a revolution. The lines have all been sculpted in the name of aerodynamics. The rear brake light now streets all the way across the rear, really accentuating the quad-taillights. The rear spoiler now juts up at high speeds to let everyone know you're breaking the law. (It's also an airbrake.) The Turbo model also gets special rims and exhaust pipes to let people know that your Cayenne is faster than usual.

Porsche also fiddled with this car's suspension. Now, it has six-level adaptive suspension which goes along with the different terrain modes.

Interior

The interior design of the Cayenne is similar to that of the Panamera. The massive center console greets the occupants upon entry. Everything can be controlled through the high-definition screen from media, navigation, temperature, and chassis setup. Gone are the old button stacks and in are the new touch-sensitive surfaces which vibrate when pressure is applied.

The seats are now 18-way power adjustable and are offered in a plethora of colors. Other interior packages are available, but be cognizant that each item ticked on the options list quickly makes the price jump.

Transmission and Standard Options

Unfortunately, the Cayenne Turbo won't be available with the PDK gearbox that is found in models like the Panamera, Macan, and 911 but it does receive the quick-shifting 8-speed automatic which is perfectly adequate for everyday driving. Each Cayenne gets a four-wheel drive as standard. It also gets Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) which help give it enormous stopping power.

The standard equipment on the 2019 models is unbelievable considering many of these options were additional extras with the last model. A leather-bound heated, sport steering wheel comes standard as well as front and rear heated seats. The navigation is Porsche's latest Connect plus with Wi-Fi, live traffic updates, and Apple CarPlay.

The Competition

The Cayenne has its work cut out for it because competitors like the GLE 63, Audi S Q7, BMW X5 M, Range Rover SVR, and now the Jeep Trackhawk all deliver ridiculous performance. Many of these are also much cheaper. Another few models to keep an eye out for: The Bentley Bentayga, Rolls Royce Cullinan, and Lamborghini Urus, Each cost nearly twice as much as the Cayenne Turbo S but also offer twice the performance and comfort. Just food for thought...

Price

So how much for all these "standard" extras and mouth-watering performance? Well, the last Cayenne Turbo came in at around $160,000 so expect this one to be a tiny bit over that.

2019 Cayenne Turbos are currently on sale now.
