5 Famous Porsche Owners and Enthusiasts

Many famous people and celebrities opt to make the sleek design of the Porsche their own, but few ever take their love of Porsche to the level of a superfan.

1. Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren is obviously best known as a top shelf clothing magnate. His name is quite possibly on at least one piece of clothing you wear. This good fortune has had the certain effect of giving him money to realize his other interests. Most notable among these is his extensive collection of cars. One of the earliest rare car purchases he ever made was an awe-inspiring 1979 Porsche 930. Since then, he's also drawn in a couple of vintage 911s. This may pale in comparison to the 70+ other cars he has in his collection, but he's still invested more in the Porsche name than just about any other private collector around. His car collection was estimated at around $300 million US dollars, making it quite possibly the most expensive and extensive private car collection in existence. Not bad for a man who started out by selling ties, hey?

2. Salomondrin

YouTube has allowed people to express their lifestyles and share their interests both in equal measure. Salomondrin is a successful social media personality and YouTuber that has turned opulence and a love of sports cars into a proper job. His affable demeanor and passion make his Porsche purchase videos a vicarious joy to watch. The mere showcase of such road monsters in the first place certainly doesn't hurt either.

3. Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey has made a big name for himself on television, being cast for major roles in shows such as Gray's Anatomy. The man's passion for acting is the only thing that possibly rivals his obsession for fine German performance motoring. Porsche is the name of the game for Dempsey, especially when you get into the vintage styles. It's not surprising that a Porsche lover with an eye on the classics would be driving around in a slick 911 sportster-- that is, at least whenever he's not riding in his RS.

There are many celebrities out there who are big into Porsche cars, but Dempsey is set apart on the merit that he actually races the machines as they're meant to. From the Indianapolis Speedway to the prestigious and notoriously difficult Le Mans endurance race, Dempsey has pushed this hobby much farther than others tend to even dream of. He's even the captain of his own racing team! If Patrick Dempsey's name doesn't mean a lot in the cultural digest of most gearheads, he's certainly commanding respect much closer to home.

4. Dario Franchitti

Dario Franchitti earns a special accolade for being one of the very best drivers in the Indy Car Series. He's even managed to win the Indy 500 three times and counting. It's that kind of ingenuity behind the wheel that makes you take proper care of his preferences behind the wheel. As it happens, a man who races cars for a living tends to want the same perfect engineering on the street as well. His 1973 Porsche 911 is a red demon, and despite being well over four-decades-old now, it still looks as cool and as mean as ever.

5. Jerry Seinfeld

Who says that comedy can't bring in a lot of money? It's been said that, at some point, Jerry Seinfeld (you know, the one from that "show about nothing") had at least 40 Porsche cars from various eras. It's hard to imagine a bigger Porsche super fan out there, not to mention one that has enough liquid assets out there to make their automotive dreams a tangible reality. Seinfeld's made his money on making people laugh, but with so many Porsche cars to his name, you've gotta wonder where his true passion lay this whole time.

The verdict is in. German metal forever.
