Outstanding Performance-Car Heritage

Porsche has long been known for producing world-class sports cars and supercars. In this context, the ‘fast’ nature of a car refers to the top speed. Porsche cars have been known for their impressive top speeds, but for the most part, Porsche’s engineers have been seen to focus on building small, lightweight performance cars that offer exceptional handling capabilities and extraordinary acceleration. Despite this fact, Porsche still boasts some of the fastest cars of all time.

5. Porsche 911 Turbo S - 205 mph (330 km/h)

In fifth place is the seventh-generation (991) Porsche 911 Turbo S. It is driven by a remarkable 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 engine rated at 580 horsepower at 6,750 rpm and 516 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,100 - 4,250 rpm. This Porsche 911 Turbo S is capable of sprinting from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and it can achieve a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).

In addition, like all other Porsche 911 cars, it employs a rear-engine, rear-wheel/all-wheel drive layout that gives it exceptional agility and stability. The 7th-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S also features active rear steering that helps to improve maneuverability when cornering.

4. Porsche Carrera GT - 207 mph (334 km/h)

Beating the 911 Turbo S to fourth place is the equally impressive Porsche Carrera GT. The Carrera GT is a mid-engine supercar that was built between 2003 and 2007. It was inspired by the 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning 1998 Porsche GT1, and as such, it was the first production car to have a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque chassis. In total, only 1,270 Carrera GTs were ever made.

The Porsche Carrera GT boasts a top speed of 334 km/h (207 mph) and can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. This awesome performance can be attributed to its impressive aerodynamics, its purposefully built body, and its massive 5.7-liter aluminum V-10 engine that makes 612 horsepower at 8,400 rpm.

3. Porsche 959 S – 210.64 mph (339 km/h)

Coming in at number 3 is the Porsche 959 S. This car is said to be one of the first sports cars to earn the title of “supercar”. It is also widely regarded as the best sports car that Porsche offered in the 1980s. It boasted a top speed of 211 mph (339.5 km/h), hence it was the fastest street-legal sports car of its time

The Porsche 959 S was an enhanced version of the Porsche 959, and it came equipped with a 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine. Most sources place this engine’s output at 510 - 515 horsepower, but in truth, most of them had varying outputs because the people who ordered it were allowed to dictate how much output they wanted. Only 29 of this special-order variation were made.

2. Porsche 911 GT2 RS – 211.26 mph (340 km/h)

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS was launched in 2017, and according to Porsche, it is the fastest and most powerful Porsche 911 car of all time. This car is also one of the fastest sports cars on the famed Nürburgring-Nordschleife. In October this year, a modified version completed a lap around the Nürburgring ring in just 6:40.3 minutes, beating the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ to first place on the list of Nürburgring’s fastest cars.

The rear-wheel-drive Porsche 911 GT2 RS is driven by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that develops 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. This engine can propel the 911 GT2 RS from zero to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. It also enables this car to achieve a top speed of 211 mph.

1. Porsche 918 Spyder - 214 mph (345 km/h)

Taking top honors is the legendary Porsche 918 Spyder. With a total powertrain output of 887 horsepower, the 918 is one of the most powerful Porsche cars ever built. It is all-wheel drive and comes equipped with a hybrid power unit which pairs a naturally aspirated, 608-hp 4.6-liter V8 engine with two electric motors that produce an additional 285 horsepower.

In addition, the supercar can be powered solely by its electric motors for up to 19 miles. In this mode, it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds and can reach speeds of up to 93 mph. However, when both the gasoline engine and the electric motors are being utilized, this car achieves a top speed of 214 mph and requires just 2.5 seconds to sprint from zero to 60 mph.
