1. A fresh spin on a perfect concept

The 911 GT3 has big shoes to fill. Fortunately, while Porsche has always worked tirelessly to keep their flagship sports car at the top, the essential design's always had a rare quality of perfection. The new GT3 features a facelifted appearance and optional manual gearbox among other things, but it's still very much the same kind of 911 we know and love. That's always been Porsche's thing; where others change, they choose to refine and improve; none of us ever feel bored by it because the 911 design was virtually flawless from the start. We're happy they're still willing to throw a bit of experimentation around the edges, but it's to Porsche's credit that they've kept their golden egg so intact over the years.

2. Obsessive engineering design

If there's one thing about Porsche we can't get enough of, it's the details. Seriously, with the modern version, in particular, it seems Porsche felt the only way to improve upon perfection was to take their design down to the micro level. Every thing from the carbon fiber hinges to the active suspension has been combed over with the intent of bringing the best possible performance out of the GT3. Even if some of the details probably have a negligible effect overall (switching to carbon fiber hinges only saves a kilogram on weight) the lengths they go to prove themselves is admirable.

3. Porsche have made a focus of efficiency

The fact that automakers have made such a priority of fuel economy and efficiency in their vehicles is no coincidence; it's what the customers want, after all, and the market demands they follow suit. Porsche's "Every Last Detail" approach to design is a suitable fit for this goal. Thanks to the past examples in Porsche's 991 Series, we already know to expect inventive new ways to shave cents off each trip. The efficiency objective doesn't just apply to the gas pump either; with features like their Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control system, Porsche are looking to wring the most from their current engines. Being a GT3, it's obvious Porsche will favour raw performance any time they can, but we'll probably see some fresh ways they've improved the fuel economy regardless.

4. 911 value doesn't depreciate after purchase

If you've ever needed to give a sensible argument in favor of buying a sports car, it bears mentioning the lasting appeal and value. The 911 is so long-lasting because the style is basically perfect. There won't be any worry about the new GT3 losing its impact once the initial hype wears off. Although we're confident that Porsche will continue to find ways of improving upon the design in future iterations, it's impossible to imagine a world where the GT3 has lost its prestige and demand.

5. The 911 deserves its legendary status

Let's be serious: With the proud record that Porsche have already amassed in a 50 year-plus history with the 911, it would make less sense not to be excited about a new model. If you've owned or at least driven any 911 car in the past, you'll already have some idea of the great things to expect. If not, you should trust us when we say it's something special. Even by the standards of other sports cars, Porsche constantly outdoes the competition. We expect Porsche to meet that exceptionally high standard this time around as well.
