5 Traits That Make Porsche Unique

There's a reason you'll rarely hear someone complain about Porsche. They're practically Auto Royalty, and they have the quality to back it up.

1. The Porsche 911

It's insane to think that Porsche's legendary 911 sports car is now over 50 years old. Since its '63 debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 911 has earned a place as one of the great hallmarks of sports car lore. Much in the same way Chevrolet is defined in part by its Corvette nameplate, Porsche has its 911. Although the 911 isn't as immediately visually distinctive as the Corvette, anyone who has owned one will swear by its keen balance of ferocity and reliability. Porsche can boast a long list of achievements, but we're inclined to argue the 911 may very well be the luxury automaker's highlight.

2. A special air of exclusivity

Even compared with other high-performance sports car manufacturers, there's a special vibe about Porsche. Where similar automakers like Audi and BMW are known for a range of upper-class vehicles, Porsche is strictly known for their biting sports fare. The only other major brand we can think of like that is Ferrari; suffice to say, Porsche is in exceptional and rare company in this regard. There's a special feeling of exclusivity in driving a Porsche. If they're even able to beat other sports car brands in that regard, they must be something special.

3. They're reliable in a way most other high-performance automakers are not

There's a quiet bias against German automakers and high-performance automakers in general that the boost in specs means having to switch up the parts more often than you usually would. Perhaps it's based on the insider information we received, but it's increasingly obvious that Porsche is fully committed on distinguishing themselves apart from their lesser competitors; that's true in every regard, but this one especially. Barring the Lexus brand, Porsche is virtually alone in its attempt to marry the best performance with the enduring reliability many have come to expect from more workmanlike vehicles. A unique thing about Porsche is their effort to go to the grassroots level, on sites such as Rennlist, to scope out the prospective issues buyers have about the vehicles so that they might fix them in time.

4. The distinctive coat-of-arms logo

People are often so fixated on the specs and traits of the cars themselves, as they rightly should be, that the quality of the marketing culture itself is overlooked. The fact that Porsche adorns their vehicles with a coat-of-arms lends the brand a greater vibe of class and significance. You wouldn't be drawing any apathetic stares with a six-cylinder boxer engine as it is, but the bold, masculine aesthetic of the Porsche logo means everyone will know exactly where you stand in the auto hierarchy.

5. Their reputation has remained consistent

From the earlier days at the prime of European sports cars to the present day, everyone's always been able to agree on what defines Porsche. Like Ferrari, the name itself brings to mind a host of expectations related to sporting quality and high-performance. Considering this sharp impression holds true even for car casuals, it should say a lot for Porsche's enduring reputation. Unlike a few of their competitors, Porsche has always known what they wanted to be. Because of that, we know to always expect the best from them in the future.
