Techno Wizardry

Porsche has long been keen to harness the latest technology to extract every bit of performance that it can from both its racing machines and road-going vehicles. As such, the 992 911 GT3 RS represents the very best of what the German automaker has to offer, a car that uses some pretty amazing tech to go as fast as possible around the track - as well as make it incredibly easy to tweak numerous settings without leaving the driver's seat.

Three-Stage Stability Control System

First up, we have a pretty special stability control system that, like all of the car's other systems - can be controlled via various buttons and knobs on the steering wheel. There are three different stability control settings available to choose from - On, Dynamic, and Off - but from there, things get even more complicated - in a good way, of course.

Eight-Stage Traction Control System

When selecting the degree to which one wants the car to intervene when the 911 GT3 RS loses traction, there are eight different possible settings. Drivers can adjust the car's traction control system from 4 to 7 in On, while Dynamic goes from 1-7 to allow for greater yaw angles, and Off allows a setting of 0. The higher the number one chooses, the more quickly the computer responds when called upon, as one might imagine.

Aero Adjustment

Meanwhile, the wild-looking aero bits on the 911 GT3 RS serve an important purpose as well, with all of those add-ons playing an integral role in helping keep it glued to the ground. However, putting the car in track mode automatically optimizes settings for that type of venue, and there's also a DRS button on the steering wheel if the driver prefers straight-line speed over cornering downforce.

Making Adjustments

The aero and various other tweakable settings preset in the 992 911 GT3 RS all play a big role in maximizing the car's performance and also give the driver complete control over its suspension. This allows one to optimize the car's performance on different types of tracks - for example, setting compression and rebound settings to zero works nicely on smooth, dry tracks. However, there are countless different ways to tweak both the front and rear, independently, allowing two drivers to fine-tune the car's understeer and oversteer characteristics on the fly.

Differential Settings

911 GT3 RS owners can also tweak the car's differential settings by changing the amount of differential lock on coast pretty much any time they're not on the throttle. This enables users to alter how much under or oversteer they want the car to exhibit on corner entry and exit, which can be quite useful for a rear-engine vehicle such as this one.

Different Strokes

The sheer amount of customization options present here can be a bit intimidating, for certain, but the good thing is, leaving everything set at 0 will result in pretty impressive performance, regardless. Porsche designed the 911 GT3 RS to be an incredibly capable machine, even without having to become an expert in suspension dynamics. But on the flip side, if you want to play around with different settings to improve performance, the possibility certainly exists.
