Memorable Milestones

For a company as old and full of history as Porsche, there are seemingly endless milestones to celebrate. And indeed, 2018 is a year full of them. To celebrate 70 years of the Porsche sports car and 30 years of the Type 964 911, the automaker brought its Porsche Classic restoration showcase to the Techno Classica 2018 show. Surrounded by extraordinary vehicles, restoration examples, and original parts, it was quite the showcase for fans of the brand.

Massive Showcase

The famous automaker was joined by 13 Porsche Classic partners from seven European countries in a massive showcase of both amazing vehicles and services. The Techno Classica show takes place each year in Essen, Germany, and has quickly become one of the most important international trade fairs for vintage cars and modern classics.

Remaking a Classic

Chiefly among those incredible displays is a masterfully restored 911 Carrera 4, which was completed by Porsche Classic specifically to celebrate 30 years of the 964. This particular car features an incredible 85% new parts and provides a stellar example of what is possible through the Porsche Classic service.

Pair of Firsts

For Porsche, the 964-generation 911 also brought with it a host of important developmental steps in the historic car's history. Along with styling revisions and integrated bumpers, the 964 was the first Porsche to be offered with all-wheel drive and the Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Groudbreaker

When it debuted back in 1988, the 964's 3.6-liter engine was also the most powerful naturally aspirated powerplant in the history of the 911 production vehicles. And perhaps more impressively, the 964 was the first passenger car engine in the world to have a controlled metal catalyst.

The Original Sports Car

Joining the 964 911 is the original Porsche sports car - the 356/1. Introduced 70 years ago, the 356 is the catalyst for Porsche's success, even today. The very first prototype of the legendary car has been making the rounds for quite some time now, most recently in a pop-up exhibit in Berlin.

Dual Success

The 356 wasn't just Porsche's first sports car, however - it was their very first production vehicle. It also proved to be quite the hit for the young automotive manufacturer, seeing success in both the showroom and the race track. And it kicked off a legendary run that we'll only continue to celebrate each and every year moving forward.
