New Look

Regardless of which side of the fence you stand with the authenticity argument around classic Porsches, no one can deny the head-turning character of this custom 1971 911 T. The flamboyant racing wide body kit and the spectacular Gulf livery are a far cry from this Porsche's days as a stock 911 T. But this build isn't a completely invasive overhaul.

Same Power Source

In fact, tucked underneath the rear hatch of this 911 T is the same 2.2-liter flat-six motor that the car originally came with. The stock engine would be nearly a half a century old, though. So it was treated to a complete rebuild back in 2017 to make sure it runs as good as new, if not better. The mill also received a tune-up late last year, so it's ready for action.

Sporty Interior

During the process of the rebuild, the 6-cylinder also received a few small upgrades including dual Zenith carburetors and an MSD ignition box and blaster coil. The plant sends the power to the wheels via a manual 4-speed transmission. A look into the cabin will reveal the fixed 911R-style seats, diamond plate toe board, and the Momo steering wheel.

All About the Weight

You will also notice the lack of a radio or an air conditioning unit. This build is all about performance and handling. And the weight-saving measures on the interior further illustrate that. The thorough restoration started with repainting the Porsche's original Irish green body and replacing it with the iconic Gulf colors, but it certainly didn't stop there.

More Performance Mods

And though the engine may not be heavily modified from the original 911 T's power unit, there are a number of performance upgrades in the handling department. The car now features Bilstein rear shocks, disk brakes, center lock 16″ wheels, and Goodyear slick tires. It also has Reinforced rocker panels and a bolt-in roll bar for improved chassis stiffness.

Ready For the Road

The rebuild has given the old 1971 Porsche 911 T an entirely new look and personality. And this practically new classic Porsche is ready to be enjoyed on back roads or the race track, as it is for sale for $69,979 by a dealer in Georgia. Some will disapprove of messing with a Porsche's original form. Others will look at this as a brilliant restomod. What do you think of this Gulf livery wide body 911T?
