Special Find

The moniker "GT2" holds a special place in the halls of Porsche history, generally signifying the ultimate performance 911 available. Combine that with the overall excellence of the 997 platforms, and you've got one seriously desirable vehicle. That certainly sums up this gorgeous 997 GT2 RS, which has just 2,599 miles on the clock and is up for sale at Gooding & Company.

Rare Bird

The 997 GT2 RS is a rare bird as well, with only 500 produced in total and just 142 earmarked for U.S. consumption. So it's no surprise that this particular car hammered for a significant selling price of $374,000, which is big money but completely understandable for a special machine like this.

Desirable Options

This particular car is said to be packing a host of desirable factory options, including carbon fiber front fenders, which were a $6,840 option that reduced the car's weight by 20 pounds. Additional options include the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, Sport Chrono, Sound and Interior Carbon Packages, and exclusive Department options including black-painted wheels, clear taillights, an aluminum footrest, and deviated stitching.

Finely Detailed

Put it all together, and the original MSRP of this 911 was $271,600. It was originally delivered to Boardwalk Porsche in Texas and remained in the Lonestar state until February of 2020. The new owner had the car completely serviced and detailed prior to the auction and installed a new set of rubber, all of which reportedly cost a total of $10,000.

Recouped Investment

Amazingly enough, the seller racked up 1,500 of the car's 2,599 miles in that short period of time, but who can blame them? We're guessing they got their money's worth out of this amazing machine, and now it's time to recoup that investment.

Impressive Numbers

Whoever bought this gorgeous 997 GT2 RS is certainly getting a special machine, as this was the first production 911 with a top speed of over 200 miles-per-hour, and its 620 horsepower 3.6-liter flat-six was also capable of propelling the car to 60 miles-per-hour in just 3.5 seconds. These are impressive numbers for a new car today, let alone one built a full decade ago.

Black Beauty

This black-on-black beauty is number 389 of the 500 produced and is likely one of the nicest ones on the planet. So we certainly can't blame the new owner for paying a premium to bring it home, because we'd certainly do the same for this rare gem.
