A steal at $600,000?

You would be hard-pressed to find a diehard Porsche enthusiast that doesn't consider the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 the greatest water-cooled Porsche of all time. As high-strung naturally aspirated engines and manual gearboxes are being superseded by more advanced turbocharged engines and dual-clutch transmissions, Porsche enthusiasts are clenching on to cars like the 997 GT3 RS 4.0.

The GT3 RS 4.0 is the pinnacle of Porsche performance prior to the 991 era due to its revered handling characteristics, 6-speed manual transmission, and a Flat-6 that screams to 8400 RPM. Only 141 GT3 RS 4.0's were delivered to the United States. Furthermore, only 39 GT3 RS 4.0's were "paint-to-sample" cars like this awesome Orange example explored in this article.

Unmistakable aesthetics

The ultra-rare orange paintwork sets this GT3 RS 4.0 apart and is one of the motivating factors behind its massive $600,000 price tag. Notice the functional aero including the massive rear spoiler, front splitter and canards, and side skirts. The black forged alloy wheels contrast with the paintwork to provide a dramatic aesthetic to the vehicle. GT3 RS 4.0 side badging reminds drivers around you that this is no ordinary GT3 RS!

Purpose-built for the track

The racecar aesthetic continues into the interior with an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel and racing bucket seats. Everything in this interior screams function. There are no fancy screens or touchscreen displays to distract you from this visceral driving experience.

The Formiddable 4.0 Flat-6

To top it all off, the 4.0-liter Flat-6 monster that revs to over 8400 rpm is unique to this 997 only. The standard 3.8 Liter unit in the GT3 RS is a masterpiece in itself, but the 4.0L engine provides a noticeable increase in low-end power without sacrificing any top end pull. Those GT3 RS 4.0 owners who were lucky enough to step up from a standard GT3 RS exclaim that the car is a completely different animal on the track due to this increase in low-end torque which leads to faster lap times.

Race-bred features and performance

All of this race-bred performance can be yours for the humbling price of $600,000. Some folks even believe that this car is undervalued at this price since it is one of the last 911's that comes naturally-aspirated and with a manual transmission. Add on top of that this ultra-rare spec and you have yourself a future collector car that could break into the 7-figures within a few years!
