Another Safari 911 Beckons Us into the Wild

Taking inspiration from off-roading 911 creations of past and present, this 2007 Carrera S is a head-turner, to say the least.

To turn a capable sports car, specifically engineered for optimal performance on asphalt, into an off-roading beast is generally a strange choice. But it's a visual we've grown somewhat acclimated to with the Porsche 911. Such conversions have roots in Porsche's own off-road racing Safari vehicles.

An Overlanding 2007 Porsche Carrera S follows in those footsteps. The car was listed for sale on Bring a Trailer a few months back. The listing provided a thorough explanation of all the work that went into turning the 911 into an adventure vehicle, along with a myriad of photos detailing the condition of the car.

Off-Roading Equipment

It's hard to miss the obvious off-roading cues here, which consists of those big 225/65 BF Goodrich T/A KO2 tires all-terrain tires, the light pod at the front, the lifted suspension, and the heavy-duty Yakima roof rack. The four Hella Rallye 4000i Xenon bulbs will provide ample illumination when required. And a spare wheel, an ax, and a shovel can be found in the roof rack above.

Appropriate Usage

The car showed some signs of wear on the exterior, which should be expected, given the type of terrain the Porsche is built for. The vehicle showed 60K miles on the odometer at the time of the listing. The 3.8-liter flat 6 is unaltered, capable of 355 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Mechanical Upgrades

To be able to handle the unpredictable terrain, the 911's suspension has been beefed up with the help of a JRZ Motorsport double-adjustable suspension kit, inverted front and rear shafts, and 12-inch/15-inch front/rear springs. A skid plate is also applied at the rear to protect the rear end of the car from the elements.

The interior has also received a host of upgrades, starting with Recaro Sportster CS seats and Schroth four-point harnesses. Behind the seats, you will find a half-roll cage. The steering wheel is a Momo item, and a tall CAE Ultra Shifterserves is the centerpiece of the cabin. This Safari-inspired 911 was sold for $121,000 this past February.
