Artist Gives Carrera GT a Modern Makeover

If Porsche ever decided to build a new Carrera GT, it would probably look something like this.

Modern Day Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is an amazing car, without a doubt. It looks amazing, has a race-bred, quick-revving V10 that produces an intoxicating and sonorous sound, and a simply old school driving experience that the true enthusiast can appreciate. The Carrera GT is obviously one of our favorite cars ever, and we wish that it could come back. Though it's never gonna happen. But if it did, Porsche's mighty hammer might look something like this rendering from J.B. Cars

Natural Evolution

Comparing the rendering to the original image, it's easy to see what has changed. And honestly, it looks pretty natural. The rear taillight section is the most obvious update here and reflects current Porsche design language. The lower rear fascia has also received a redo, and the Carrera GT's audacious rear spoiler is a little more subdued now.

Future Influence

There's obviously some new 911 influence present, as well as a bit of 918 Spyder sprinkled in there. The wheels came from the latter, which is no surprise. After all, it was the 918 that succeeded the Carrera GT and brought Porsche's hypercar program into the future. Now, we patiently await the arrival of the next car in this series.

Nothing Like It

Clearly, we'll never see a car like the Carrera GT ever again. The world has shifted too far toward smaller, forced-induction powerplants, hybrid and electric power, and heavy tech features with multiple traction control settings. The Carrera GT was one of the last raw driving machines ever built, which is why it is so endearing to so many.

Electric Slide

That's why the next Porsche hypercar will, at the very least, feature a hybrid drivetrain. And it could be completely electric. But we imagine that it will still pack some sort of internal combustion engine, as the 918 did. Couple that with electric technology derived from Porsche's Formula E involvement, and you'd have one seriously exciting machine.

Leave It Alone

Though the idea of a modernized Carrera GT seems like a good one on the surface, in reality, we're probably better off if it never happens. After all, it just wouldn't be the same. And when you create something as magical as the Carrera GT, why mess up that legacy by trying to recapture lightning in a bottle?
