Modern Redo

The Porsche Carrera GT is already a modern-day classic, a car that's often referred to as the last of its breed thanks to a high-revving, naturally-aspirated V10 powerplant, manual transmission, and total lack of traction control. The Carrera GT is indeed a masterpiece in every way, but it's worth wondering, what would a modern-day version look like? That's a question "The Sketch Monkey" Marouane Bembli recently set out to discover in this video.

Reinventing a Classic

The concept behind designing a 2022 Porsche Carrera GT involves implementing styling elements from the Porsche 919 Street concept, a rarely-seen machine that was a styling exercise for the automaker. Regardless, Bembli also has some ideas on how to "improve" upon Porsche's iconic original design as well.

Retain and Restyle

That includes retaining some of the car's more memorable styling elements like the integrated rear and massive air outlet, though restyling some of the car's lines to make them look more organic. Bembli also wants to emphasize the car's cut line and make it sit lower to make the car look like it has two distinct pieces of bodywork.

Modernizing the Design

The main emphasis is on the rear of the car, of course, which is where we would expect to see most of the styling updates take place, along with the front end. That includes the addition of a rear light bar that runs the entire length of the rear end, just like pretty much every modern Porsche now wears.

Fresh Take

The process also involves restyling the rear wing into distinct Le Mans-style wings, which are decidedly modern compared to the original. Throw on a set of newer-looking wheels, and the result is a rather interesting modern take on a car that isn't that old, yet looks nothing like its current Porsche brethren.

What If?

Do we prefer this new design over the original Carrera GT? Well, no, but styling is very much subjective. However, we do find this "what if?" exercise to be interesting and worth watching, because, in reality, Porsche will probably never bring back the Carrera GT in any way, shape, or form.
