Porsche Power

Volkswagen has been making vans for a very long time now, and vintage examples have skyrocketed in value in recent years thanks to an extreme amount of interest. But you rarely see later examples of VW vans - like the T3, build from 1979-1991 - out running around anymore. After seeing this Porsche-powered Multivan that's up for sale at House of Cars, however, we can't imagine why.

Already Done

As many Porsche fans already know, the automaker was the first to install a flat-six powerplant in a T3. It did so back in the mid-1980s with the B32, a van created out of necessity as the automaker needed a faster version of the van to use as a support vehicle for its famed Paris-Dakar rally efforts in the 959.

Fun Hauler

Porsche created 15 examples of the 911 Carrera-powered T3, but this isn't one of them. Regardless, it is packing Porsche power in the form of a 3.0-liter flat-six taken from a 911 SC. The mill produces 204 horsepower and is backed up by a proper five-speed manual transmission to create one seriously fun and awesome-sounding hauler.

Full Build

The engine swap isn't the only upgrade present on this VW van, either. It's also riding on a full Bilstein suspension with Porsche brakes and 16-inch Fuchs wheels wrapped in Continental Sport Contact rubber. All of the mechanicals have been rebuilt, so it should prove to be a reliable ride as well.

Looking the Part

The rest of the van has been thoroughly redone as well, including the body, which was taken down to bare metal and repainted to perfection. It belts out flat-six noises via a stainless steel exhaust, and has four auxiliary lights up front to give outsiders a hint at what's going on under the proverbial hood.

Plush Ride

The interior is quite plush as well, with a trio of black leather bucket seats up front with Schroth harnesses to haul a couple of friends in style and comfort. All of the gauges are Porsche pieces and look right at home sitting on top of the dash, constantly reminding the driver what sort of engine powers this boxy beast.

Perfect Companion

The rear of this T3 is wide open with no additional seating, making it perfect for hauling parts or even bags of mulch home from the big box store. And when that stuff is unloaded, we imagine that it's a ton of fun on curvy roads, too. And if that doesn't describe the perfect companion for anyone that owns a vintage 911, we don't know what does.
