For 2018, Cayenne Gets a Nose Job Straight Out of 90210
The new for 2018 Porsche Cayenne has been caught out testing, and it seems to have had some rhinoplasty, with a whole new face. It appears next generation Cayenne buyers may get different noses depending on model and engine selection.
1. New Generation
By the end of 2017, Porsche should be debuting the new, third generation of their Cayenne SUV. The new generation is set to have better fuel efficiency, better performance, and improved driving dynamics. For starters, the VW Group MLB platform will be the foundation of the next generation Cayenne, shared with the Audi Q7 and the Bentley Bentayga. The new platform offers lighter weight, while improving the durability, thanks to a construction from a combination of high-strength steel, aluminum, and carbon-fiber.
2. Engines
The approximately 220-pound lighter Cayenne is suspected to be offered with two V-6 engines for 335-horsepower in the base model, or 434-horsepower for the S model. The Cayenne Turbo will come with a turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which is expected to produce 540-horsepower. As for the hybird, the base model will feature the 2.9-liter V-6 engine, and the Turbo will have a 4.0-liter V-8, both combined with added batteries and electric motors, for up to 670 horsepower.
3. Interior
Inspired by the new Porsche Panamera, the interior of the next generation Cayenne should feature fewer buttons and a more responsive touchscreen interface system. The infotainment system is expected to be much improved in its ease of use and function, featuring new technology and connectivity options. The Cayenne is also expected to feature new driver aids that will make piloting this SUV even safer than the previous generation, like Night Vision Assist with thermal imaging camera feature.
4. Styling
If there is one thing obvious about the next generation Porsche Cayenne, it is its nose job. From the looks of the spy photos, the nose is much less tapered, and on this particular version, features a prominent full width egg crate grille. The next generation Cayenne also takes after the Macan, specifically its clamshell hood and wrap-around taillights. Out back the top spec models feature quad exhaust outlets.
5. Pricing and Release Date
We won't know the release date for the next generation Porsche Cayenne, or its final form until we see it in one of the auto shows. You can expect to start seeing the 2018 Cayenne break cover sometime in the last quarter of 2017, if it is indeed to be a 2018 model. As for the pricing, the in England the 2018 Cayenne is priced at £55,965, and the Cayenne S is priced at £68,330, which equals $72,971 and $89,093 respectively. However, the USA price tags have not yet been finalized.
