New Rivalry

There was a time when we couldn't have imagined a Porsche SUV might exist. But now, we can't imagine a world without them. Thankfully, the move to more family-friendly people haulers hasn't come at much of a sacrifice in terms of performance, and now we've got a whole new rivalry among German automakers to witness. And in this video from CarWow, we get to see three of the finest - the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, Audi RS Q8, and BMW X6M - line up against each other for a drag race.

In the Wet

This particular drag race isn't like most, however, as the runway these German people haulers are competing on is quite wet from recent rain. But those are the breaks when you're operating out of the UK. Before the race even begins, this battle is quite interesting on paper, though that doesn't always translate to real-world results.

Power Game

The RS Q8 utilizes a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 590 horsepower and 591 pound-feet of torque. The X6 M trumps that with 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 pumping out 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, while the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid lands at the top of the heap thanks to its electronically-assisted twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that cranks out 670 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque.

Not One, But Three

This drag race actually winds up turning into three drag races, as the BMW driver redlights twice. Despite this, the X6 M proves its dominance in a straight line by winning all three races, including the one where the driver doesn't jump. Meanwhile, the Porsche finishes second in all three races, while the Audi brings up the rear in each instance.

Hitting the Wall

The results are a bit different when these SUVs face each other in a roll race that starts out at 50 miles-per-hour, however. There, the Porsche jumps out to an early lead, but the BMW passes it at around 130 miles-per-hour, as the Turbo S E-Hybrid seems to hit a proverbial wall.

Mixed Results

With all three vehicles in their respective performance modes, the results are much different. There, the Audi actually snags the early lead but is soon passed by the Porsche, which takes the win with the BMW finishing close behind. A braking test results in a very close finish as well, but the BMW ultimately takes that showdown by a few feet.

What If?

If anything, this comparison shows that these three SUVs are quite capable and very similar in terms of performance - at least the BMW and Porsche, that is. We'd be interested to see a rematch on dry pavement, but for now, we're left to wonder how that battle might play out.
