Who is Wolfgang Porsche

Born into automotive royalty, the youngest son of Ferry Porsche, Wolfgang has followed the footsteps of his oldest brother Butzi, his father Ferry, and his grandfather, the great Ferdinand Porsche into the family business. As a young man, however, Wolfgang chose to venture on his own. In 1978, he returned home as the chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche Automobil Holding SE and Porsche AG.

Porsche Top 5 recently sat down with him to talk about his favorite all-time Porsche cars.

5. 911 Turbo S (993)

One of the all-time popular 911's and a generation that has been skyrocketing in value in recent years, and the last of the air-cooled Porsches, the 993 has to be near the top of everyone's list. The 911 Turbo S variant gives you everything you need in a wonderful sports car. Power, handling, and most importantly, the unrivaled feeling of being in control of your automobile can all be found in this beauty. Dr. Porsche enjoys driving his 993 Turbo S on the winding roads near the Grossglockner in Austria.

4. Carrera GT

When this drool-worthy supercar first showed its face in the early 2000s, it immediately became the obsession of so many of us. The gorgeous styling, the unbelievable engine, and the top-notch performance are enough to grab anyone's attention. But this Porsche monster is unique in a sense that not many people will ever experience, and that is driving it.

3. Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

The Panamera may not be the most popular among Porsche enthusiasts, but Wolfgang has an interesting take on this modern grand tourer. It carries the DNA of Porsche in its styling and design. The headlights and taillights, the form language, and even small details such as the ignition being on the left side of the steering wheel, the Panamera holds true to its brand. When it comes to performance, the Turbo S E Hybrid lacks nothing at all. With 550HP from the IC engine and 130HP from the electric motor, this 4-door coupe packs plenty of power. Those who have driven the Panamera are also impressed with the handling. Combine these advantages with the fact that is seat 4 people comfortably, it's no wonder Dr. Porsche has picked it as a daily driver.

2. 356 America Roadster

Created specifically for the US market, the America Roadster is a truly special version of the 356. The car came with a rain cover for the cabin, but as Wolfgang says, it was rarely used, since it rarely rains in California. The four-cylinder engine in the back of this classic Porsche only produces 70HP, but considering the fact that with an aluminum body, the roadster only weighs about 1300lbs, driving around in this classic 50's sports car is still a blast to this day.

1. 356 Carrera 2000

The Carrera 2000 takes the top spot for Dr. Porsche. The Carrera in the name means that this 356 is a true sports car. He calls it a "wolf in sheep's clothing," as the friendly face of the Porsche hides the capable and powerful sports car underneath. The car nicknamed the "pregnant cat" is the true essence of Porsche and the inspiration for many generations of cars to come. Dr. Porsche believes in the philosophy of evolution in the design of cars, as opposed to revolution. It is easy to see how the 356 has naturally evolved and lead to the development of the newest generations of Porsches, and that essence will continue to inspire many generations of Porsches to come.
