Everything You Want to Know About the 2019 Macan

Right from Paris

Porsche has pulled back the covers on the Euro-version 2019 Macan at the Paris Motor Show. The mid-size SUV was showcased just a couple of months back, but we finally have all of the tech specs for the European model. The Macan has been a moneymaker for Porsche just like its big brother the Cayenne with sales coming in at 97,000 units from 2017 alone. While this new Macan isn't a complete overhaul, it does provide a host of improvements that help to keep it fresh on the marketplace. 

Engine specs

Under the hood of the base model is a tweaked 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo gas engine that produces 242 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. That powerplant is mated to a seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission which allows an acceleration time of 0 to 62 in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph. Have no doubt that Porsche will provide other engine options soon enough for those who desire more oomph.

Lights and wheels

With regards to the design, there is a new rear end that has a three-dimensional LED light panel with a four-point layout that is similar to that of the new Cayenne. The front of the car gets LED headlights as standard and an all-new bumper. The Macan can now be ordered with either 20 or 21-inch alloy wheels with 18-inch wheels coming as standard.

New tech

The interior has been revised as well with a 10.9-inch touchscreen PCM infotainment system that replaces a 7.2-inch display from previous models. That new infotainment system now gives the user the ability to use Apple CarPlay and wireless hotspot as standard. PCM comes with online navigation provided by Here Online, mobile phone preparation, two audio interfaces, and intelligent voice control.

Making your daily drive cushier

Depending on which optional package there is on tap, you can get a 911-style sport steering wheel, a heated windshield, air ionizer for a cleaner air in the cabin, and a new traffic assist system that includes adaptive cruise control up to 37 mph. That last feature won't just take care of stop and go duties but will also monitor the direction of the vehicle to keep you in the correct lane.

Paint and availability

Four new paint colors are available for the 2019 Macan with Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Miami Blue and Light-Grey Crayon. 

The Macan entered production last month at the Leipzig factory in Germany and Porsche is now taking orders in Europe. The vehicle starts at about $68,000 including VAT. No word on what the new Macan S will be capable of yet but some speculate that power will come from a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 that is borrowed from the Panamera.
