Purpose Built

It's hard to fathom now, but back when Porsche first announced that it was going to build an SUV, the outcry was deafening. Today, SUVs and crossovers make up a large portion of the automaker's sales, though you don't exactly see many of them tearing up the local off-road trails. But a German company called Delta4x4 might just be looking to start a trend with this wild custom Cayenne.

Epic Adventure

Unlike a lot of mall crawlers out there in the world, this particular build is actually going to embark on an epic off-road adventure, according to its owner Shane Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen is currently living in Austria, but his work contract there recently expired. So rather than taking a plane home, he plans on driving this across two continents to get back to his hometown in South Africa.

Living Quarters

Though you could power through and make that trip in a week or two, Oosthuizen plans on taking his time and seeing the sites along the way. Ultimately, he expects the trip to actually span three or four months in total. This means that this Porsche needed to be outfitted not just with toughness and capability in mind, but it also has to serve as somewhat of rolling living quarters.

Slew of Storage

Thus, you'll find a slew of added storage inside and outside this particular Cayenne. Up top, there's a Front Runner roof rack fitted with a tent and extra gas cans. In the rear, the Porsche is equipped with a drawer system capable of holding a ton of gear, clothing, and other necessities. And there's a full-size spare in the back as well, because a flat tire is inevitable on this sort of journey.

Standing Tall

Also up top, you'll notice a full row of PIAA rally lights, which are capable of lighting up even the darkest of deserts at night. The Porsche rolls on 20" wheels wrapped in the requisite knobby off-road tires, which is pretty standard. It even rolls on the stock Porsche air suspension, but links have been added to give the Cayenne some much-needed extra ground clearance.

Change of Plans

None of these modifications are what anyone would call crazy or over-the-top, but it seems like Oosthuizen and Delta4x4 are pretty confident that they're all this Porsche needs to complete its long journey. Unfortunately, Oosthuizen will have to wait a little longer to find out. Thanks to the current pandemic, he's already had to push his departure date back from March until June at the earliest.

Predicting a Trend

But when this Cayenne finally gets to embark on its epic journey, we'll be watching closely to see how it does. And who knows? Maybe after this, we'll start seeing a bunch of old Cayennes hitting the trails alongside the typical Jeeps and big trucks.
