Flashback: When A Fashion Designer Gets a Hold of a 911

Stunning Collab

You could certainly make an argument that there's no need to improve upon a 964 gen Porsche 911. That the original product is essentially perfect. But even Porsche themselves see the upside in teaming up with a fashion designer to make a few subtle changes to their masterpiece. And that's exactly what's happened with this stunning collaboration with Teddy Santis, founder and creative director of the popular New York fashion label Aimé Leon Dore (ALD). 

Runway Model

The car you see before you is the result of months of work, and subsequently appeared in the ALD runway show at this year’s New York Fashion Week and was on public display at the iconic Jeffrey Deitch gallery in New York for some time. But while the exterior of this classic 911 is certainly notable, it's the interior that serves as the centerpiece of this work of art. 

Wrapped in Luxury

The fully custom interior features Schott sunflower leather and Loro Piana houndstooth, the same materials highlighted in Aimé Leon Dore’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection. Rich top-grain leather wraps the dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels, while the reverse suede side of the leather covers the headliner and sunroof. 

Masterful Design

The bespoke seats in this gorgeous interior were meticulously restored in the legendary RECARO workshop in Kirchheim, Germany. A Schott leather trunk with Loro Piana accents completes the sumptuous design. It holds a care bag inspired by designs from the Porsche Classic product archive, which is a nice subtle touch.

Tracing the Lineage

But the ties don't stop there. The exterior of this 911 is painted the same shade of white as the storefront of the ALD flagship store located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. A rear ducktail spoiler pays homage to the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The Cup 2 wheels are a nod to Porsches of the 1990s. And a graphic Pegasus detail above the front wheel, designed specifically for this project, references logos from historic Porsche racing cars. 

Dream Project

"Working together with Porsche on this project has been a dream come true. It has been a deeply humbling experience to be entrusted with a project of such importance to the Porsche community and to work together on a design that has been so instrumental in shaping my own outlook and aspirations," Santis said. 

"Teddy Santis is as much a Porsche fan as we are, and we are delighted to see his inspiration and creativity applied to the 911. His interpretation is visually stunning and also shows unique features for a 964 – it’s a true one-of-a-kind," added Kjell Gruner, Vice President Marketing at Porsche AG. 

Another One

This visually stunning 911 certainly isn't the first collaborative project between Porsche and a fashion designer, but it is one of the best. And given the success it's enjoyed so far, we certainly don't expect it to be the last such project, either.
