Porsche's greatest transmission ever hasn't seen much use in this super low-mile 911.

Extra Special

For Porsche fans, G50 is a special nomenclature, even though it only refers to a transmission. But oh, what a special gearbox it is. Many consider the G50 five-speed manual to be Porsche's greatest ever, and the fact that it was also fitted to some pretty great air-cooled 911s didn't hurt, either. So you could say that this particular low-mile '88 911 we spotted at Bring a Trailer is something extra special.

Tucked Away

This Guards Red beauty has just 26k original miles on the clock and it certainly shows. The absolutely stunning machine was originally purchased in New Jersey but has also spent considerable time in sunny, dry Arizona. But it's pretty clear that it's spent more time tucked away in storage than on the road in either state.

Quintessential Look

As far as classic and notable 911 styling cues go, this one's also got them in spades. Goodies like Fuchs wheels and that massive whale tail spoiler are things you just expect to see on a classic Porsche, and they look fantastic here. It's a quintessential look, that's for sure, and the red paint doesn't hurt, either.

Few Luxuries

Likewise, the black interior is clean, simple, and in nearly perfect condition. But in this case, you won't find a bunch of luxurious leather. Just black vinyl seats with pinstriped velour inserts. But there are plenty of power options, including the driver's seat, locks, and windows, along with heated side mirrors and air conditioning.

Pleasing Tunes

In the dash, you'll find the familiar Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo ready to crank out your favorite '80s classics. Once you've inserted your best mixtape in there, grab onto the leather-wrapped steering wheel and prepare to peg those VDO gauges while you enjoy the background noise that glorious air-cooled flat-six provides.

Plenty Sufficient

The 3.2-liter mill utilizes a Bosch fuel injection setup to produce 214 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, which is still sufficient by today's standards. The engine is backed up, of course, by that legendary Getrag G50 transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The only modification to note is a Dansk stainless steel exhaust system.

Cool Deal

As far as later-model non-Turbo air-cooled 911s go, they just don't get much nicer or more desirable than this low-mile beauty. And bidding on the car was understandably brisk, as it ultimately hammered for $74,000. But we bet the new owner was more than happy to beautify their garage with one of the coolest Porsches ever built, regardless of price.
