Go Go Gemballa

If you are fortunate to have spent some time behind the wheel of a Porsche 991 Turbo or Turbo S, but find 515-550 horsepower to be lacking and the factory widebody not quite curvaceous enough for your liking, you are in luck as Gemballa can solve these issues with their new GTR 8XX Evo-R BiTurbo.

A History with Porsches

Gemballa is a Porsche tuning company that was established in the early 1980s and has produced a number of wild rides based on various Porsche models. Seen here is one of their earlier ventures using the 930 turbo platform fitted with unique body panels, custom interior work, and power modifications courtesy of a RUF partnership.

By the Piece or Complete

Gemballa currently offers a number of performance parts for various Porsche models that they will sell individually or pair with one of their 'individualization packages' which incorporates items such as suspension, brakes, bodywork, interior etc. That said, it is their limited production vehicles, such as the new GTR 8XX Evo-R BiTurbo, that tend to steal the headlines.

For Show & Go

Unlike some tuners who are in the business of creating sleepers, Gemballa is quite the opposite as they tend to make spectacles of their vehicles to let average citizens know they are in the presence of something unique. The GTR 8XX Evo-R is quite spectacular with its abundance of track-focused, carbon fiber aerodynamics that sees a new front bumper, bolt-on fender flares, splitter, canards, rear diffuser, decklid with oversized wing, intake scoops, and hood.

Producing Power

The powerplant is where things get especially good as Gemballa managed to 'massage' an additional 300 horsepower out of the engine. Details are a bit sparse about how they ultimately reached that number but during development last year they claimed to have swapped the turbos, added new intake manifolds and associated tubing, reworked the cylinder heads & valvetrain, developed a new exhaust system, and fitted an entirely new engine and transmission management system to reach 818 horsepower and 810 lb-ft or torque.

Kickin' it up a Notch

Have it your way

Gemballa has only released a couple of photos that show the interior of the car, and from what we can gather, seems to be a generic Turbo interior with an Alcantara wheel featuring a red Gemballa logo. Although the interior is fairly reserved compared to the rest of the car, it is expected that customers of the limited production GTR 8XX Evo-R will spec out the interior with exotic materials as found in other limited Gemballa cars.

An Abundance of Possibilities

The wheels are forged monoblocs that have been widened and upsized to 21" fronts and 22" rears to fill out the 1.2" wider arches. The interior features a safety roll bar for track duties that can presumably be paired with a set of sport bucket seats and harnesses if the owner desires. Gemballa also states that the car can be painted in gloss or matte finishes.

Breaking the Bank

Gemballa has not yet announced their pricing and availability of the new 991 GTR 8XX Evo-R BiTurbo yet, but if we use the previous Avalanche as a measuring stick, it would not be surprising if it came in at around the $500,000 mark with less than 100 units being produced. Perhaps the more important questions are whether or not we will see one exploiting its hoard of horsepower and flashy aero bits at a racetrack...
