Porsches en masse

All things Porsche is totally rad, so it is completely reasonable to want to immerse yourself in a celebration of some of these fine German sports cars from time to time. Porsche collectors/enthusiasts Antonio Kawage, Michael Meldrum, Rudy Mancinas and Niels Meissner set out to put on an event that would cater to both current and classic Porsche fanatics. The result was TejasTreffpunkt 2017 and boy was it awesome!

An Intriguing Venue

TejasTreffpunkt took place in downtown Houston at the Spring Street Studios art gallery. Spring Street Studios is a preservation and redevelopment project in Houston's historic First Ward area that has repurposed an antique storage building into an expansive corridor gallery. As with any car event, the location plays a huge role in creating an atmosphere ripe for car enthusiasts to gather. Clearly, the Tejas Treffen team put loads of thought into choosing this venue as the old buildings in combination with elaborate art made for a get-together unlike anything else.

All Are Welcome

TejasTreffpunkt aimed to showcase the entire Porsche model lineup ranging from some of the earliest air-cooled classics to the most exclusive modern water-cooled variants. Although the event was open to anyone, the team made a specific call out for air-cooled models such as the 356, 912, 911, & 914. To spread the love, they also wanted to feature the front-engined 924/944/928/968 models that are beginning to make a resurgence. Also, as would be expected, any motorsports-derived models (GT2/GT3), as well as the supercars (959/Carrera GT/918), were welcome additions.

Cars on End

The event had space to display approximately 100 cars as part of the show, but sources claim that well over 300 Porsches from across the country showed up to enjoy the event. Droves of 993's and 964's crowded around the place and made great viewing spectacles in their own right. However, many unique cars (like this 356 and its original tool kit) were displayed in the pavilion area with the most exclusive cars placed inside the art gallery.

An Abundance of Activities

Ticket pricing for the event was a mere $10 and included entry into the art gallery as well as the expanded pavilion area. Vendors and food catering trucks were onsite with unique offerings and refreshments. A live DJ, as well as an art auction, provided additional activities for visitors. Word is there was even a Lucha Libre wrestling demonstration at one point later in the evening. With Porsches and Luchadores onsite, it was an evening that many will not soon forget.

Rare Sightings

Visitors of the event were treated to some rare cars that made an appearance at the show including a Singer restoration, Carrera RS 2.7, RWB 993, a Beck 550 Spyder, 997 GT3RS 4.0, and a pair of Carrera GT's. Perhaps, one of the more unique Porsches at the show was the Junior diesel tractor on display in the gallery. Fun fact: After WWII, only German companies who produced farm tractors prior to and during the war were able to continue manufacturing tractors. This left Porsche on the sidelines.

Commendable Charity Contributions

Perhaps the best part of the TejasTreffpunkt is that a number of the event proceeds went to charity. The Tejas Treffen team has been partnered with the Snowdrop Foundation to help provide scholarships to pediatric cancer patients. In addition to the Snowdrop Foundation, they also plan to contribute a portion of this year's proceeds to the Houston Food Bank to aid in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Auf Wiedersehen - Until Next Year

It is clear by the number of attendees that people have the same love affair with Porsches as the Tejas Treffen team does. The 2017 TejasTreffenpunkt was a laid-back, relaxed event that brought art lovers and motorists together for an unforgettable experience. If you did not happen to make it out to this year's event, there is bound to be future gatherings as rumors are already spreading about what next year's event has in store for us.
