Rooted in Racing

During the late '70s, Porsche reigned supreme with their 911-based 935 racers that utterly dominated the Group 5 racing scene. One company that worked with the factory on the 935 and continued further development of the platform in later years was Kremer Racing. While Kremer's efforts were largely focused on racing, they would produce 935K street packages for road-going 930 turbo models as can be seen here.

The Green Scene

This particular car began life as a 1976 930 Turbo which was special-ordered from the factory with Ice Green Metallica paint and unique green upholstery. Several years later the car was sent over to Kremer Racing to be outfitted with their 935K package that included not only body kit components but also interior bits and performance upgrades.

Fiberglass Fixin's

As can be seen, the body kit consisted of new louvered slant nose front fenders, vented rear flares, molded rocker panels, front valence with integrated lights and signals, and a tidy rear bumper. Besides the 930 signature whale tail that remains in place, the body has a similar silhouette to that of the 935 racer.

Air-Cooled Turbo

The car still retains its numbers matching 3.0L turbocharged flat-six mated to its original four-speed transmission, but has been breathed on by Kremer to extract additional ponies. While no official output numbers are given, other Kremer builds claim to be in the 400 horsepower range. In any case, the specialty Kremer exhaust note is intoxicating and sounds as if it belongs on a racetrack.

Period Styling

The interior features a set of Zender power bucket seats finished in green cloth to match the original factory color. Besides the recently installed Momo Prototipo steering wheel, the car retains many of its correct parts installed both by Porsche and Kremer such as the air-conditioning system, corded cellular phone, CB radio, and a premium Blaupunkt sound system with an equalizer.

Making the Rounds

After the car was completed at Kremer, it was featured at the Munich Auto Show in Germany before eventually being shipped into the United States. Once stateside, it jumped around a few times, spending time in Massachusetts, California, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington.

On the Block

In recent years, the paint and decals were freshened-up on the 930/935K as were the color-match 15" Fuchs wheels. The car recently made its way to auction via Bring A Trailer where it was shown to have 41,000 miles on the odometer and included a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche as well as a couple of vintage photos of the car on the streets of Germany. When the gavel fell at $92,500, the reserve had not been met, and to date, there is no record of the car yet being sold. For those on the hunt, it may still be available. While the looks may not be for everyone, a 935K conversion is a cool slice of Porsche history any way you cut it.
