718 Formula 2 Car (1,257 lbs)

The purest of sports cars, this 718 Formula 2 car was driven by legendary drivers like Stirling Moss during a time when racing was as much about personality as it was about speed. With perfect mid-engine balance, the 718-2 was a world-class racing car that would see competition all across Europe. Equipped with 160 horsepower it boasts a stout power to weight ratio by weighing next to nothing.

Porsche 935 (1,565 lbs)

Competing in the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft series, the Porsche 935 —aka “Baby”— is a car wanted by enthusiasts no matter what kind of cars they claim allegiance to. One of the lightest racing machines to ever cut its teeth on the circuit, this baby isn’t one you want to provoke. 380 horsepower, custom subframes, and redesigned rear suspension made this car a nightmare to follow into Turn 1. Good luck keeping up...

917 (1,764 lbs)

If there was ever a car that defined Le Mans it would have to be the 917. We all know how great these cars are from their grueling battles that raged into all hours of the night, but it may surprise you to find they were this light. It’s no wonder then that these missiles were hitting over 240 mph on the straightaways of Mulsanne.

956 (1,764 lbs)

Famous for many things —among them setting a time of 6 minutes 11 seconds around the Nurburgring that some people claim is unlikely to beat— the 956 is also one of the great racing cars of Porsche’s long and illustrious career. Horsepower comes from a shared platform with the 936/81, or in English, a 2,650 cc turbocharged flat-6 that the company built an empire on. Cars like this are the reason people call it “The Green Hell.”

919 (1,929 lbs )

Arguably, the most amazing car on this list is the 919. Not because of its hybrid system or outright speed. The 919 is amazing because in the last 32 years (the time between the 956 and the 919) their cars have gained less than 200 lbs. When you factor in all the technology that has to be on a fuel injected car with a hybrid system and aerodynamics this is a pretty incredible feat. It is a testament to how far engineering has come in material sciences, packaging and above all else: Porsche's never-ending ability to adapt while changing the game. Hope you liked this list. See you next time!
