Everyone loves a 911 R and who wouldn’t want to own one brand new? A better question is who wouldn’t want to drive one.

Who Drove This Car?

It’s hard to imagine someone buying one of the best 911s ever made and then letting it sit in their garage for a couple years. 87 miles isn’t even a few trips to the grocery store (you get my point here, right?). How any human resists railing on this car for hundreds of miles in 1 trip is beyond my understanding.

Manual Motivation

911 Rs represent all the good things that we love about P-cars: flat-6, manual transmission, no turbos, awesome brakes and supercar performance. There really isn’t a better car out there you can buy brand new. Whoever owns this should do it justice and pile on a few hundred miles the first day they take delivery of it.

Asking Price

Bidding on bringatrailer.com reached $275,000 before the reserve wasn’t met and the car was pulled. It’s a stark reminder that these cars aren’t trading hands for cheap and will continue to command ludicrous prices for decades to come.

What about the Rest?

At an original MSRP of $160,000 these cars quickly skyrocketed to prices that approached half a million and even 1 million dollars in some cases. Prices have steadily started to decline, but good examples are still in the mid to high 300,000 range as confirmed by a check on Dupont Registry. This owner wasn’t going to part for anything less than that.

Great Ideas

Instead of being left in a garage to accumulate value this car should be driven. Porsche designed this car for the sole purpose of making it a drivers car. Now? It’s sitting in someone’s garage doing nothing. As cool as it is to see a 911 R with ultra low mileage, it would be much cooler to see one driven in anger by someone who understands what this car was made for. Hopefully, this car goes back up for auction so someone who actually is going to use it can do so. Until next time…
