1. E3 2017

In a moment that stunned video game players as well as the automotive world, Microsoft in partnership with Porsche unveiled the 2018 GT2 RS. At what automotive event or show was this done? The Electronic Entertainment Expo. No one really calls it that anymore as you'll just simply hear E3 as the moniker for the show where game developers and console manufacturers show off what is coming to consumers for the coming year while also giving an inside peek at things that will be hitting shelves in the near future. With Los Angeles being the location of E3 and also a huge automotive market with well-to-do enthusiasts, Porsche knew that the GT2 RS's debut would fit right in here.

2. Porsche proliferation

In a matter of synergy, Microsoft with it's newest and most powerful console ever to grace the marketplace have joined up with Porsche to showcase a car that is the most powerful 911. The car will also take a starring role as it will be the cover car for the new racing simulation game Forza Motorsport 7. Until just last year a Porsche couldn't appear in most racing games due to an exclusive licensing deal that the brand had signed with Electronic Arts. Now that the deal has expired you'll see Porsche appearing in video games all over the place so that players can get their Stuggart fix no matter the place.

3. What we currently know

The car will have almost 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque that comes from a water-injection 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat six engine. From a number of journos that got some time in the car, it was also reported back that the car will have a PDK gearbox and will tip the scales at just under 3,300 pounds. Other specs are still unknown at this time but we're sure there is a whole lot of extra special that is going into making this one hell of a car.

4. The game

The game, Forza Motorsport 7, will feature not just the GT2 RS but more than 700 other cars spanning across brands large and small from all over the world. As for the environments that you can battle it out in these cars, there will be 30 racing locations that are detailed and modeled to match the real deal right down to patches of gravel in beautiful 4K rendering. If you have any doubts or simply don't know how great video games have come in the last few years, just check out this launch trailer

5. A pretty snazzy racing sim

This Forza game, debuting on the new console dubbed the Xbox One X, will be the most visually photo realistic graphics yet thanks to the plethora of components inside the system. FM7 will run at a native 4K resolution at a blistering 60 frames per second. The game's developer, Turn 10, also showed off dynamic weather during a race, with rainfall, puddles changing in size, and the sky altering to match weather patterns.

6. The DNA of Porsche

Looking past the badly placed pillar, we can see that the GT2 RS shares some similarities with a couple of cars in the 911 lineup. The stripes on the hood definitely call to mind those of the 911R and the large rear wing is a bigger one than the type on the GT3 RS. However, the front end of this car is a restyled front bumper that has three large air inlets that will most likely help to cool the brakes and keep aero working hard. This unveiling was quite the surprise and we'll be on the lookout for some official photos straight from Porsche that will come very soon.
