Drawing Attention

The car you see before you came into this world as a regular old 911 Carrera. And while modifying classics like this often hurts their value rather than helping it, this particular car has been done up in a very nice manner with the intention of making it look like a European 3.8 RS model. That work clearly did the trick, because the car attracted quite a bit of attention when it crossed the virtual block recently at Bring at Trailer.

Subtract and Add

The black-on-black beauty just had all of this work done around two years ago, and it looks quite fresh. During that process, the entire Porsche was repainted, and the factory sunroof and rear wiper were deleted. The seller then had the RS-style front and rear spoilers and 3.8 RS badging added.

Rolling Stock

A set of Fiske three-piece wheels were added, measuring in at 17×8″ and 17×9.5″ front/rear, which was then wrapped in 235/40 and 275/40 Toyo Proxes R1R tires. Behind those gold-centered wheels with polished lips lie drilled and slotted rotors and adjustable Bilstein coilovers.

Cabin Overhaul

The black leather interior was treated to a few RS items as well, including the carpets and door panels with red pull handles. The seller also had the radio, air conditioning, and rear seat deleted, as well as adding a Singer-style center console and shifter.

Modded Six

The car's original flat-six was treated to a host of modifications as well, beginning with a displacement increase to 3.8 liters. Some of the highlights of the build include Porsche Motorsport 3.8 RSR pistons and cylinders with an 11.5:1 compression ratio, Web Cam 3.8 RSR camshafts, and a custom ECU chip. On the dyno, the 911 made 284 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque.

Remaining Drivetrain

That power flows to the rear wheels through Porsche's six-speed manual transmission and a Quaife limited-slip differential. The clutch and flywheel were replaced by the seller, though the rest of the drivetrain remains stock.

Nicely Done

Altogether, this 911 Carrera is a nicely done and comprehensive build that's essentially a great way to get some RS style on a budget. Typically, these sorts of builds tend to attract negative attention as "wannabes," but the work here is quite tasteful and well-done. So at least in our book, we'd call it a success.
