The most successful restomods are those that keep the character of the classic car intact. And this 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 build accomplishes just that.

Porsche Dreams

It has become somewhat of a trend in recent years. Many Honda enthusiasts are slowly leveling up to the Porsche universe. One such enthusiast, who jumped ship just before the supply and demand imbalance in the Porsche used car market started driving prices up significantly, was Jared Aguila. He swapped his magazine-worthy Honda S2000 build to get behind the wheel of a car he'd dreamed of owning as a child.

Great Starting Point

His opportunity to purchase a 964 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 presented itself when the previous owner decided to sell it as an unfinished project. It served as the perfect starting point for Aguila's build. As he had done with his Mugen S2000 build, his vision was always to enhance the look and feel of the car with subtle and effective mods, but without taking away from its character.

Interior Upgrades

The work began with the interior. The first order of business for Aguila was to replace the tan upholstery with a black color scheme. In went leather Recaro Pole Position bucket seats, RS lightweight carpet kit, and an Alcantara Momo steering wheel. A subsequent addition was a fire extinguisher, which came in response to a close call when the car almost caught fire on the way back from Cars and Coffee. Luckily, Aguila was able to kill the small flame with a cup of cold brew!

Engine Rebuild

Some engine trouble forced a complete rebuild. Aguila chose to stay away from added horsepower and keep things as close to the OEM spec as possible. At 275 horsepower, it's enough to provide plenty of smiles per gallon, while maintaining the authentic driving feel of the Porsche.

Suspension and Chassis

In terms of chassis and suspension upgrades, however, no such restraint was used. The 911 has gained some serious handling capability courtesy of H&R street coilovers, Eibach sway bars, Tarrett trailing arm bushings, and Sleepers Speed Shop's X-brace. The stance has been dialed in to provide the perfect balance of cornering capability and style.

Subtle Cosmetic Mods

Those black JDM Volk TE37 wheels uniquely complement the Porsche black/grey hue. And the exterior modifications are subtle and tasteful, so as to not mess with the Porsche's iconic aesthetic. And while Aguila misses the modern amenities and reliability of his Honda S2000, he assures us, "I LOVE every part of the "OLDNESS" the car comes with."
