Seeking Roads

One thing that separates Porsche owners from most is that they love to actually get out and enjoy their cars. Well, most of us, anyway. To help us do that a little more efficiently, Porsche has launched a new, free app called ROADS. The app highlights a community designed to bring together passionate drivers from all over the world and help them discover and share beautiful landscapes, exciting bends, and the most breathtaking roads around the globe.

Large Community

ROADS currently boasts over 100,000 users, all of whom are able to peruse suggested driving roads from others, as well as share their own suggestions with a mere click. And while the concept revolves around Porsche, anyone with any make or model can get these benefits for free.

Inspiring a Journey

Last year, the app inspired well-known travel blogger Sebastian Canaves to drive a Porsche 718 Cayman GTS along the Wild Atlantic Way through the Northwestern part of Ireland. ROADS guided him on a 168-mile route through vibrant towns and small villages, along the 2,000-foot high sea cliffs of Slieve League, and over twisting passes through the wild and rugged Irish countryside.

Following Along

Canaves shared this route with the community using the ROADS recording function, as well as a trip along the Baltic Sea coast and a route across the Black Forest from Baden-Baden to Munich. All users can also drive and rate these routes thanks to the integrated turn-by-turn navigation. Anyone who follows Canaves on ROADS is also notified when he posts new routes.

Sharing is Caring

"Doing a journey like this by car gives you a very special feeling - the absolute freedom to drive wherever the road takes you," Canaves said. "With ROADS, I can share this passion with other people who love driving and make my contribution to the world’s largest collection of epic routes."

Record and Share

Not only does the free ROADS app offer suggested routes in far-off countries, but it also includes suggestions right on your doorstep if you feel like a Sunday drive, for example. The collection already includes more than 2,000 routes produced by passionate drivers all over the world. All users can contribute to the route collection, which is growing daily, by recording their trips with the app and then sharing them with the community.

Building a Database

Porsche's goal for ROADS over the next few years is to create the largest user-generated collection of routes available anywhere. Which is obviously something that we can get behind. So if you're into beautiful scenery and curvy tarmac as much as we are, it's certainly worth a look.
