What made Porsche invest in updating the Macan?

In a word – sales. Since 2014, Porsche has sold a whopping 350,000 Macans the world over. Porsche Cars North America Inc. recently revealed that it has seen a 6.7% increase in sales this year versus last year.

Let’s start with performance

Not that the Macan provided owners a poor driving experience: Porsche simply saw an opportunity to improve upon the vehicle. With the latest iteration of the Macan, the SUV’s chassis has been improved upon to offer better stability which, in turn, provides passengers with a much comfortable driving experience. And with the updated chassis comes the option for new wheels too: Both 20- and 21-inch wheels are available for purchase.

Sportier interior

Porsche drew upon the sportier 911 model for inspiration when updating the Macan’s interior. This includes everything from an (optional) GT sports steering wheel to heated windscreen and more.

Improved creature features

Porsche made a number of updates to the Macan’s dashboard: Now at its center is an 11-inch touchscreen display which the driver or passenger can use to control the car’s infotainment and navigation functions. What’s more, Porsche’s Connect Plus module can be used for up-to-date traffic information as well as a recording system should its driver feel so inspired to take this (expensive) SUV off-roading.

Better visibility

Porsche made several updates to the Macan’s lighting system. For starters, at the front of the SUV, Porsche has added new LED headlights with a design that one can argue gives the vehicle a bit of a wider appearance. At the rear of the car, the company has added a three-part, three-dimensional light strip. For all the Porsche fans out there, if this strip looks familiar it’s because the design was borrowed from the Cayenne.

Assisted driving system

Porsche is trumping up the fact that the Macan features the company’s all-new Traffic Jam Assist technology which lets the car steer and accelerate/decelerate in crowded driving situations without the driver having to do so.

Availability

Porsche’s Macan will be available in several customizable colors, including Miami Blue, Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, and Crayon paint jobs. Those in the market for the new Macan will also have several new interior packages to choose from as well. The company’s North America division is suggesting that the updated Macan will come to the States summer 2019, at which point pricing, engine options, and other pertinent information will become available.
