It's not often we are treated to such creativity in the world of automotive photography.

Pure Aesthetic

Babar Afzal was contracted by Porsche to give us a wonderfully aesthetic collection for the Panamera. Unfortunately, we don't often receive automotive photography with such liberal application of artistic creativity. But The Drive reports that Porsche gave Afzal the freedom to create some truly stunning art that shows off the beauty of the Panamera as well as the creative mind of the photographer.

Reflections of Passion

Afzal's work was a part of Porsche's "Reflections of Passion" campaign. The shoot was largely inspired by the work of fellow photographic artist Reuben Wu. The shots focus on the unnatural, striking light paths against the desert landscape outside Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates.

Producing the Shots

The style is created using high-power LED lights attached to drones along with long exposure shots. Throw in some compositing and you've got a gorgeous blending of the natural and synthetic. The shots also feature lighting from the Panamera's own headlights and taillights to lend to the cyberpunk aesthetic.

Trouble Breeds Art

As with most art, producing the collection was not without its challenges. A last-minute reschedule, location change, traffic jams, and poor GPS reception all made for a challenging time collecting the necessary shots. But in the end, Afzal and his team put together some stunning work.

The Future of Automotive Art?

"What really excited me about this collaboration is not only the freedom I was given to do whatever I want, but there was no interference of any sort," said Afzel. "That's what really gravitated me towards it."

Hopefully, we'll continue to see more work like this in the automotive art scene sooner rather than later.
