Cool Opportunity

Cars guys tend to have a bit of admiration for more famous car guys, and that's certainly true of the late Paul Walker, who rose to fame in the Fast and Furious movie franchise and has since become an icon among enthusiasts for his passion for automobiles. Walker owned a lot of cool cars over the years, including this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, which is now going up for grabs at Mecum's upcoming Monterrey auction on August 18-20.

Proud Purchase

Walker was quite proud of this particular purchase, which he made back in 2011, even going so far as to talk about it with Jay Leno during an appearance on his show shortly thereafter. The 911 has since been restored and is in tip-top shape, though Walker reportedly wasn't even sure if it ran or not when he bought it.

Rare Machine

Even without its celebrity attachment, this 911 Carrera 2.7 RS is obviously a special machine, and one of the most iconic Porsche vehicles ever made. It's also quite rare, as the automaker only produced 1,580 of them in total, though that is far higher than the original planned run of just 500 cars.

Shaving Weight

The yellow racer for the street features a fresh black cabin redone by Autobahn Interiors, while the seats are covered in a very familiar and attractive black and white checkered pattern. Thinner, lighter windows and steel body panels help shave weight, which is a theme of this particular model.

Mechanical Restoration

Meanwhile, Jerry Woods Enterprises handled the mechanical restoration of this beauty, redoing the car's original 2.7-liter flat-six, which was originally rated to produce 210 horsepower. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, this particular engine is fitted to a car that has a mere 58,268 miles showing on the odometer.

Bidding Frenzy?

It's hard to say just how much this particular 911 Carrera 2.7 RS will ultimately sell for, but we'd wager that its former celebrity owner will help boost its hammer price significantly. Combine that with the fact that it's one of the more desirable Porsches ever built, and that could make for one heck of a bidding frenzy next month.
