Go For Broke

With newer and faster cars coming out all the time, it's easy to forget about "classics" like the last-gen 911 GT3 RS. Heck, it isn't even the fastest or most powerful version of Porsche's iconic sports car, but that doesn't mean it's a slouch by any means. That much is clear from this cool video from Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, which shows their recent top speed attempt at a runway testing facility in Merritt Island, Florida in a 2019 GT3 RS.

Impressive Stats

Porsche states that the GT3 RS has an official top speed of 194 miles per hour. But as with any car, there's no telling how many miles of tarmac you'll need to reach that speed. Regardless, it's an impressive number for a car designed to carve corners, especially one wearing a giant wing in the back.

Short Stretch

As it turns out, the GT3 RS doesn't need much room to stretch its legs quite a bit, either. In this particular test, the runway provides 2.3 miles of tarmac, which isn't terribly far when you're trying to hit nearly 200 mph. Regardless, the 911 reaches an impressive 187 mph before it crosses the finish line.

Still Going

Even better, the car is still accelerating when it sees the checkered flag. Things have slowed down considerably by that point, but there's no reason to doubt Porsche's top speed claim. Heck, the car might even be capable of more, given the video evidence provided here.

Even Faster?

We'd love to see what the GT3 RS is capable of with a little more space to stretch its legs. With a curb weight of just over 3,200 pounds and 520 hp of motivation from its 4.0-liter flat-six, we imagine that it could very possibly crest the magical 200 mph mark. But we'll have to wait to find out.

No Restrictions

It would also be interesting to see how much faster the GT3 RS could be if someone removed the aero before giving it a go. Surely the reduction in drag would add at least a few miles per hour. Perhaps Johnny Bohmer will give that a go in the near future, and then we can see what Porsche's pure track machine is really capable of!
