Paying Tribute

Porsche's history in motorsports is undeniably legendary. But this long and successful history wouldn't have been possible without the brilliance and bravery of the drivers behind the wheel. One such iconic driver was Mexico's Pedro Rodriguez who passed away half a century ago in a racing incident. Now, Porsche is paying tribute to the great driver with a one-off 911 Turbo S configured as an ode to the Porsche 917 that Rodriguez raced to victory many times.

Pedro Rodriguez

A little history lesson for those unfamiliar with '60s era motor racing. Pedro Rodriguez took part in multiple categories of racing and took victories wherever he went. During his time in Formula 1, he took two Grand Prix wins. In endurance racing, he won the coveted 24 Hours of LeMans race, as well as taking the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Daytona race on four different occasions!

Ties to the 917

And that's not all! Rodriguez has a successful history with the Porsche 917 as well. Competing in the World Endurance Championship, he was dominant behind the wheel of the 917. Of his 11 total wins in the series, 8 of them came with the Porsche. It's no surprise then, that the manufacturer has decided to create this special 911 Turbo S to celebrate his memory.

One-of-a-Kind

The special 911 features the same livery as the 917 that Rodriguez raced. It also comes with a few subtle indications of the car's ties to the racing legend. Rodriguez's number 2 adorns the side of the car, while the kick plates feature a 917 silhouette in green, white, and red of the Mexican flag. Accents on the interior also hint at the connection with the 917. And the one-of-a-kind 911 Turbo S also comes with a helmet very much like the one worn by Rodriguez himself.

To Be Auctioned Off For Charity

This particular spec has been locked out of the configurator, ensuring this 911 is one-of-one. The best part about the whole thing is that the car is set to be auctioned off, with proceeds going to charity. So the owner of this unique Porsche will feel great knowing their purchase will have helped a charitable cause.
