Unique Story

We've heard all sorts of interesting survival/revival stories revolving around vintage Porsche vehicles over the years. Heck, we even came across a 911 that was rescued from a collapsed barn recently. But the story of a fellow named Graham and his 1969 911T that was unintentionally left to rot for a decade in a car park is one of the most unique tales we've ever heard.

Inseparable Duo

The owner of this vintage Porsche grew up coveting 911s, working and saving until he finally bought one for himself. This 911T then served as his daily driver for four years, taking him through London traffic and on trips across Europe. He also took it to dozens of shows including Goodwood, Classics at the Castle, and many car meets at Ace Cafe.

Temporary Assignment

Graham and his beloved 911 were inseparable for years until his career threatened to end that cozy relationship. Graham's employer told him that he would need to move to the UAE for what he thought was going to be one or two years at the time. Thus, he gave his 911 a last spin through the Alps before parking it in a local car park until he returned.

One to Ten

During that time, Graham had commissioned his family and friends to check on the 911 periodically. But as time went by, it began to collect a lot of dust. One year turned into two. Then two years turned into three. Before you knew it, a whopping ten years had passed before Graham's assignment was finally over.

Dusty and Deflated

Obviously, Graham had no idea that he would be leaving his beloved 911 sitting for so long. But when he returned, he found his friend covered in loads of dust and sitting on deflated tires. Of course, this type of neglect is nothing an old 911 can't handle, as we've seen time and time again.

Call For Help

Graham enlisted local specialist Tower Porsche to come out and take a look at the car. So the outfit's owner, John, headed out to the London Bridge parking garage to assess the situation. As you might imagine, the car wouldn't start with the turn of a key, the battery was dead, and the tires were dry rotted and shot.

Back to Life

But that quick checklist was all it took. John fitted the 911 with new tires, a fresh battery, and just like that, it roared back to life. He then took it back to the shop and replaced the fuel lines, gave it a quick tune-up, and the car was running just like new. And instead of giving the 911 a good cleaning, Graham chose to embrace its newfound patina.

Telling a Story

Graham proceeded to make the two-hour road trip down to the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, all while the car was still caked in dust and dirt. And as you might imagine, the once-neglected 911 drew quite a bit of attention. Much more than if he had just washed it. This way, the old Porsche could tell its tale to anyone who walked by.

Cruel Punishment

As impressive as this story might be, we obviously hope that Graham and his 911 are never separated this long ever again. And we're guessing he feels the same way. Even though he now has a cool story to tell, that amount of time apart is just cruel. Especially for someone who clearly loves his old Porsche as much as anyone.
