Porsche 959SC From Canepa Has Steep Asking Price

In total, only 300 Porsche 959 were delivered to customers between 1987 and 1993. That means it is a very rare and much sought after car. The cars are however getting rather old and therefore Bruce Canepa has created a complete rebuild service where basically everything on the car from the interior and exterior to the suspension, engine, and chassis is rebuilt or upgraded. The entire package from Bruce Canepa costs $750.000, and that doesn't include the car itself.

Creating a modern super car

Towards the end of Porsche 959 production, twenty-nine Porsche 959 S models were built. The 959 S cars had an improved suspension, getting rid of the adjustable hydraulic system that had been used previously. The new suspension provided a substantial weight saving and featured dual coil-over springs in each front corner with gas shocks and a single coil-over spring on each rear corner. Bruce Canepa use this factory 959 S system and has then further developed it with a patented gas strut design and titanium coil-over springs. This creates a greatly improved handling and a 1" lower ride height compared to the stock Porsche 959 S.

The engine

Bruce Canepa has created three successive generations of his upgraded Porsche 959. The first generation introduced more than 15 years ago yielded 576 horsepowers. The second generation introduced a few years later, yielded 640 horsepowers. The third generation, introduced in 2016, yields an astonishing 763 horsepowers and 635 ft/lb of torque. When the Porsche 959 came from the factory it had only 450 horsepowers. To achieve this remarkable increase in power, Bruce Canepa installs a Borg-Warner parallel twin-turbo system instead of the factory installed sequential turbo system. The new engine also gets among other things new wastegates, an optimized cam timing, upgraded fuel system, high output ignition system, updated emission control system and a custom-made stainless steel exhaust system.

The headlights

Headlights are constantly evolving and to create a modern supercar out of the Porsche 959 they needed be upgraded. To make sure that the classic design of the car is not changed, Bruce Canepa cooperates with the original supplier of the Porsche 959 headlights to upgrade the headlights. The upgraded headlights are contained in the original housing, to maintain the stock appearance, but with upgraded interior giving the car a much-improved illumination.

The interior

The Porsche 959 is more than 25 years old today and the interior, understandably, needed to be refreshed to be considered suitable for a modern supercar. However, that's no problem as Bruce Canepa refurbishes the interior to make it look like new. If you don't like the color of the interior, it can also be changed to a wide variety of colors to suit your taste.

The wheels

The original 959 rims are refurbished and working with Michelin, a new tire has been developed. The 17" original rims with new tires, with wider rear tires, creates a substantial improvement in grip. Bruce Canepa is however also developing a new 18" magnesium hollow spoke rim, using the same design as the original rims, that will enhance appearance and handling even further. These new rims will be available to all Porsche 959 owners.
