If you're in the market for a 996 then I doubt you could really do any better than this GT2.

Rare Breed

While some prefer the purist nature of the GT3, others enjoy the ultimate speed offered up by the GT2. Personally, we love them both. Many of these special 911s were produced in limited quantities, however, and that includes the 996-gen GT2. This particular example, which we spotted over at Bring a Trailer, certainly fits the bill, as it's one of just 303 produced for U.S. consumption.

Rarer Still

When you consider that these cars were produced over a limited production run from 2002-2005, that makes this '02 model even rarer. And admittedly, it's been a while since we've seen one. This particular Arctic Silver Metallic GT2 hails from California, and sports just 42k miles on the odometer.

More Special

There were many things that made the GT2 a much-improved version of the 911 Turbo from this era. That started with a 220-pound weight reduction and unique bodywork including a black lip spoiler, a large fixed rear wing, and a deeper front valance with enlarged air intakes and heat extractors. This car is also fitted with black vinyl graphics on the lower doors.

Notable Features

On the inside, you'll find a black interior consisting of multiple materials including leather and Alcantara. Notable features here include a painted center console, a six-point roll bar, carbon fiber trim, FVD aluminum GT2 pedals, a custom GReddy Profec II EBC, carbon fiber and leather FVD Daytona GT 340mm steering wheel, and aluminum-look gauges.

Suspension Mods

This GT2 currently rolls on 18″ CCW wheels that measure in at 8.5" wide up front and 12" wide in the rear. They're wrapped around Nitto NT01 tires measuring 235/40 up front and 315/30 in the rear. There are a host of suspension mods as well, including H&R springs and sway bars, front and rear monoball shock tops, Porsche Motorsports toe link and lower control arms, aftermarket rear perch mounts, front upper spring retainers, a rear camber arm set, and P40-3 brake pads.

Making Power

The biggest modifications on this rare Porsche, however, lie in the engine bay. There you'll find a flat-six that's been punched out to 3.8-liters and filled with 102mm CP forged pistons, steel ductile liners, cylinder head O-rings, Pauter rods, new bearings, and a Raceware head stud kit. Other notable mods include Forced Performance HTA GT3076 HTA turbochargers, 60 lbs/hr injectors with an RSR motorsports hi-flow fuel pump, and 4.5″ Protomotive intercoolers and 3″ air intake.

Built to Drive

As you might imagine, despite its rarity, the many modifications performed on this Porsche are a bit of a turn-off for some buyers. Personally, however, we think they just make it that much more appealing to drive. But then again, that's what we prefer to do with our Porsches - drive them, not store them in climate-controlled garages.
